I need to catch some squirrels for my mountain cur pup to train it for hunting them, how would I go about this? I was thinking of setting a mix of 110s and some 1 long springs blind set on the logs they run across but does anyone have any other ideas or tips?
PETA is stupid.

Small footholds #0 or #1 will work. I've used them in gutters on houses. Rarely lethal mostly high leg/hip caught. Can be ugly. even then you need to check them almost 2-3 times a day because its rare when i get them accidentally fur trapping that mr owl, mr hawk, or other predator dont get there first.

X2 on the peanut butter..........buy one of the cheapo suit blocks........plain suet......nothing else.......then melt it and mix it 50:50 with cheap chunky style peanut butter. Pour the hot mix in cupcake papers in a muffin pan. You have to shoot em to keep em off it. Put that in a suitably small live trap. I'd think having your pup in attendance out in the open.......when you cut that squirrel loose would be about as much training as you need.
Easy to vote your way into socialism, but impossible to vote your way out of it.

My experience training hounds has convinced me live trapping coons for pup is a bad idea. They think its fun to chase them alright but get the idea that the job of catching coons is yours. A dog will either hunt or it wont. It will either tree or it won't. Take pup to a local park or something and let it chase them a bit. Then go hunting. Running pup with a broke dog (coon hunting) is a good thing too. You dont want pup hunting with the old dog once it starts catching on or pup will let the old dog find them. Soon as it gets excited about the quarry hunt it by itself.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
