That is pretty cool! I would imagine the stock rotted away but where is the barrel?

I have nothing clever to put here.

My pap liked to use a metal detector! He would let me catch bluegills out Dunlap while he poked around with the detector.
Really cool

That's is a once in a life time find for most people running a detector. Way cool.. how did you happen on to the location? If you don't mind saying.

Possibly Scott but there are other parts of the gun that one should still need able to locate if they'rethere. Steel but plate, trigger guard, brass furniture ect.

Bet that barrel was iron and not steel. It's a flintlock, not a caplock. Pre-civil war the barrels were wrought iron.
Frizzen, hammer, springs and tumbler would have been the only thing steel in the gun

I found it wading the edges of the mill pond above the dams in town here. I know there is some cool stuff in there, but did not dream that would come out of there. The rest of it was not there. I imagine that the butt plate and barrel were iron and rusted away.

That is a very cool find. Any chance we could get a picture of the other side? And a measurement?

That's a great find.

My wife wants me to wear a bracelet that belonged to her grandfather. It says, "Do Not Resuscitate".

I've read that locks were sometimes carried by themselves in the old days not as rifle parts, but as fire starters.

What from Christ that soul can sever,
Bound by everlasting bands?
None shall take thee
From the Strength of Israel's hands.
