Are these a decent size trapping rig? How much would one be worth that's in good condition? What are the pro and cons? Can anyone give me any insight?

I had an 06 model. bought it new I think for 4300. it was a nice little rig small enough to get through the wood easier than the bigger 500s. light enough you can pick up the front or back half to get unstuck. good going up hills especially compared to the 3 wheeler it replaced.

if it would make a good trapping rig depends on hoe big a line your going to run and what you need to take and hall.

I'm not sure of current market price but I was very happy with mine. Traded it for an English setters male to run in trials and for a stud.

I was the original owner of a 2005 350 Rancher 4x4. I just sold it last month for $5000 cash. They were lined up to buy it. The dealer said I could ask $6500 and take $6000. I let it go to my friend instead, who has been drooling over it since I bought it. It was a great trapping rig. I put half a moose on it and drove it 7 miles on a goat trail. I put on bigger rims and tires, warn winch and heated grips. Remember, this is Alaska and products go for more than they are worth. I don't know what it would be worth down there, but I would have kept it for less than $5000 it that tells you anything. I upgraded to a 2024 Rubicon since I sold the Rancher. You can go as big as a 26 inch tire, but stay to the 9 inch wide front and 10 inch back tire width's so your 4x4 still works like it should.

The good:They are lightweight, so easy to move around if by yourself. Great on gas, full time 4x4, easy to work on.

The bad: Hard to get some parts at times. Parts can be expensive at times. I ordered a fuel gauge from Canada for $130.00, but I wanted it really bad before I sold the used machine. It was worth it to me.

It can carry 8 big beavers, one black bear, one brown bear or half a moose, just not all at the same time.

down side is they are all wheel drive and the front tires wear out.

The electric shift switch/or automatic should be covered if in is going to sit outside.
(if it has that feature)

Miles on it is what I would consider. My 2004 foreman has less than 900 miles on it, besides a battery it’s runs great it’s hard to beat a Honda for dependability.

I'm not sure of the miles/hours yet but it looks to be in excellent condition, I'm try to get insight before I go to check it out and make an offer.

Around here late 90s and early 2000s models of that machine are going anywhere from 7-8K used. The reason IMO is because they are worth it. They are pretty much indestructible and very easy to work on. I don't know about snow and ice. But mud, rain, water, and dust are no issue for them.

Those model hondas are a little smaller, but they definitely get the job done and are way way better than the new big ones. They are tanks. We have a 99 model and sometimes use it to launch and pull up heavy river boats with all the equipment. You can let the air out of the tires and that son of a gun will pull it right up. They are tough and dependable. It is the one machine we won't get rid of.

So far, I have not ran into any issues about parts yet, like Mr. Super Wide did. But, I've only had to replace the carburetor. On my newer ones (late 2000s-2013), the carburetor and the starter have had to be replaced. Yes, the parts are expensive, but IMO it is worth it to buy the Honda part rather than the Amazon China one. The China one works great; for a little while.

If the frame is good, and the engine purrs and it does not show a lot of abuse, I magine it is a good machine. Don't worry about the plastics if they are damaged. They are easy fixes.

All hondas I've ever owned are a little cold natured though when starting. Once hot, they run like a scalded you know what.

The new ones are bigger, more plastic, and don't have the pull start. All very negatives IMO.

Used tires hard to find. Still looking for rears.

I have a 2001 Rancher 350 manual shift. In 16 years I’ve changed starter brushes 2-3 times, easy deal. Ball joints and brakes once. I use it launching and pulling boats in the river, trapping, moose hunting, mowing etc.. No cons! All pros!

03 in good condition would be in the 3k range is my guess.

I’ve got 2 they have the electric shift which is way better in my opinion then the foot shift other then it’s electrical. They usually come with a lever to foot shift in case something happens. But they are tough machines. Like others said light enough to move around by hand. Fit in back of pickup real easy, and I would agree with Trapset in the 3k range.

If you do get it an oil change, spark plug and air filter might be in order.

I got this 420 Rancher in 2022. I didn’t need it, as I already have six other running quads.It was a 2016 model with 660 miles on it. It was in perfect condition. The original owner shot himself, the wife remarried…second husband shot himself. She was moving, gonna have a sale, selling all the stuff from both husbands. She lived across the road from my son…I wandered over to look at the stuff the day before the yard sale. I saw the Honda, asked how much she was wanted. She said I’ll take $1000. I told her it was worth more than that…she didn’t care ( I’m guessing she got a life insurance payout) . I bought it, and she even gave me a Stihl leaf blower for free.

I'm with those two other guys. Most I'd pay is $3,000. I have 2 and they are 20 years old. After 20 years the plastic and rubber starts having issues. These both need yearly parts replacements these days. Parts seem to be readily available aftermarket and used on ebay.

Got a knew trapping partner, thanks to you fellow trapper's for all your input.
