One of the electronic locks failed on my safe. The locksmith that I finally got to drive the 100 miles here says he sees it all the time and the safes are usually around 15-20 years old. Mine made it 24 years before it failed. The electronic solenoids inside failed. He said there are usually 3 different things that fail on them but mine was especially stubborn to open and took him 2.5 hours after he got it drilled. S&G (the company that makes the locks for most of the safe manufacturers) recommends replacing the complete keypad and solenoid every 10-15 years. I chose the keypads for ease of opening but when they fail it is no fun. Just something to think about if you have one of these.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I don’t think I’ll ever get comfortable with those keypad locks. I just can’t do it.

My safe has the S&G keypad. It's about 10 years old now, haven't had any issues with it. But now I'm a bit concerned.
Might be time to sell it and do an update/upgrade.

Mine are Brownings but almost all of them use S&G locks. They can convert them to a combination lock pretty easy. I hate combination locks but I hate not being able to get into the safe 3 weeks before a Western hunt even more. After this, I will NEVER have another electronic lock again.

Mine has a combo lock on it. But I can remove the center of the dial and use a regular key if needed.

I can't get over how complicated it is now to turn the TV on, go thru all the schematics to watch a game. Before modern technology we'd just "push that button right there l" and the TV was on. 5-6 channels and you could watch everything.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

I believe they call that a "Day Lock".

Mine has a dial lock.

Not saying it can't fail but the odds are astronomical between it failing and an electronic one

Dang, I don't have a clue about how to turn the idiot box on.

Manual dials can migrate too and be off by a number making it troublesome to open til you figure it out.

Only one of my safes is digital because I was worried about the circuit boards and components. Say reason I always recommend manual double throw switches on backup generators. If it’s electronic it will fail sooner or later. Thanks for the post. Sorry you had problems

My old safe was a Sentry. Half the key pad stopped working, and the key wouldn’t work. Their help line told me that sometimes they don’t work and to call a smith. The local lock smith spent 4 hours on it and said he’d have to destroy the safe to get in so I told him I can do it myself. Good part is he didn’t charge me anything, he said he couldn’t complete the job I asked him to do. So I drilled holes and saws all worked.
Unfortunately I replaced it with another key pad safe……fingers crossed!

dad has not been able to get into his for 3 years now.. called a locksmith that didn't dhow up. he decided its a cheaper safe. locksmith was going to be 1/3 or more of just buying a new one so said hes just going to take it outside and cut it open weld it back up use if for ammo and buy a new one.

I think I will make my next one. I don't like the layout or how much room typical safes require
