Lots of pests in my area. Oak wilt killing oaks, ash borers killing ash, ants killing aspens and balsam. In my yard I have all of these issues going on right now.

Are you sure it's not just hot dry weather making the leaves look like theat. Several spots around here they have curled and turned black brown.

Worst beetle/disease in my life time outbreak has hit here, dead pines everywhere. Big storms this winter it's going to be horrific! Already tree's falling in roads/over power lines everywhere i go. Climate change im sure is the cause.

Emeral ash borer, they have devastated all the ash. You can see it is continuing spreading north. The Nippissing swamp behind our place is wiped out, all ash trees are dead.

are we asking about in the city or areas in the burbs?

Emerald ash borer for all the ash , very few left that aren't dead or dying

root rot for a lot of the maples

anything in a low spot was under water all spring and half the summer.

there is a bug I am not sure what effecting many of the pines

I think a bunch of it is collective if it isn't going to fall on someone it isn't being dealt with. so there is multiple years of standing dead wood every where I go in southern WI

2021 was our last hot dry summer
been fairly normal since and this spring and summer was a wet one.
but has been dry for September

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I have two burr oak trees in my backyard that have lost all their leaves. Way too early for that to happen.

My doctor suggested I start doing squats, so I moved all the beer to the bottom shelf of my fridge.

I doubt they were all “dying”. Lots of trees and shrubs are dropping leaves early because of how dry its been.

Noticed a lilac that greened up, but never had bloom on it this spring.
Noticed a couple weeks ago it looked dead.
Today it had some new leaves , and even a few blooms on it.
I've seen apple trees bloom this time of year also, thinking it's a hot dry spell, then a cool spell, and back to a wet period, and warm spell after.
Nature has it's strange times and ways with coping with droughts.

Here in my neck of the woods in SE Nebraska there seems to be a high number of trees dead or dying just about everywhere. Maybe drought has something to do with it... but I kinda and wondering if the ingredient dicamba used in some chemicals that are made for weed control in corn and other crops. I goggled dicamba and dead trees awhile back. Saw one webb site where a university did a study and found no effects of dicamba on trees. Scrolled down a bit and found another webb site that said a study by a different university found dicamba did indeed hurt trees. I'm 67 years old and have been an outdoor guy all my life and I can say for sure many many more trees are dying here everywhere... way more than a normal year. What is it... depends who you believe I guess.

If you drove I-43 from Green Bay to Milwaukee you saw miles and miles or tens of thousands of dead trees. The further south your drove the more dead trees you would see. Yes a few other species may be dieing but living 8 miles west of 43 I would guess 95% of the dead trees are ash. We have all three kinds here and a lot of those Poygan muck lowlands where ash trees thrived and not all are dead. There is not as of yet any real way to harvest or utlize all that fiber. We had little to no winter logging here last winter as there was little to no ice or frozen ground in the wooded areas.

Ash got smoked in Michigan 10 years back. We’ve had the best firewood stash imaginable ever since.

Definitely a dry year causing some early dropping on the species I’m seeing. Crops here and crisping up in a hurry, too.

Surprised Al Gore isn’t out sounding the alarm.

Trees here on the coast are way brown. Lots dying from the past four years of beetle infestation. More pronounced above the dark rocks on the coastline. Large stands dying and cut by wind shear. The violent rains in the fall through spring have literally erased beaches, and made new vast slides.
But, with that you can see the emergence of growth. Significant events are absorbed here, given how large the land is. I attribute it to natural cycle.

What is new, becomes old.

I ain’t here for a long time…. You know the rest….

The American chestnut (Castanea dentata) and American elm (Ulmus americana) are both North American tree species that have been devastated by exotic fungal diseases:

Has anyone noticed there isn't as many dinosaurs as their used to be?

Just a learning note that any maples you see now that still have green or yellow leaves are most likely norway maple invasive in most area's not native .

Japanese beetles will strip everything green off any trees. The traps they make for them draw any live ones to them.
