It’s actually become some folks job. They followed one around in the town I work. This person got out of a well known German car, walked several hundred yards to an intersection while messing up her hair, not enough to look horrible, but enough to look tired and worn out. She was actually a nice looking woman. She had a small lawn chair she’d sit in and had a sign just asking for money. No excuses or reason why, just her in her sundress, lol. My wife swore she was just tanning and figured she could make a buck or two while doing it.
They ended up confronting her as she was getting back in her car after a few hours and all she’d do was smile and drive off. Once they posted her on FB she ended her “begging”. I know I’d watched umpteen vehicles, mostly men, handing her money. One guy even stopped on a green light to give her money.

Panhandling isn't new... My father as a boy was helping his father on a job in Brooklyn about 90 years ago, nearby was a beggar on the street, my father says to grandpa, "we should help that guy, he's begging on the street"

Grandpa tells him," keep an eye on him around 5 oclock.".. 5 oclock comes and the beggars driver picks him up in a limousine....

Some of these bums do pretty well...LOL

After a concert once, I had a homeless guy stagger up to me and ask for 5 bucks. I asked him what for and he said "so I can get pint from the liquor store over there". I pulled out a five and handed it to him. He stumbled away and my girlfriend asked why I gave him money for booze. My response was "Well, at least he was honest."

Buskering is a long time honored tradition, at least they're giving you something in exchange.

A co worker gave a bum 20 bucks at a gas station we were delivering to, One of the workers there said why did you do that? He is just going to buy booze with it and my co worker, without missing a beat said, that's what I was going to do with it anyway.

Last thing I gave to a bum was my jacket. It was the company's jacket, cheap stuff but worked well. It was the middle of a cold snap when temps didn't get above freezing for a few weeks. He wasn't panhandling. He was where a bum would pan handle, but he was sitting indian stye wrapped completely in a blanket. Stuck his head out after I had stopped. I'm sure he appreciated it

I had a bum come toward me coming out of a 7-11. He was coming in hot. I was ready for him. He asked me for some change.
I said without hesitation, "What a coincidence. I was just getting ready ask you if you had any spare change."
He laughed so hard it scared me. He veered off and I heard him say, "Good one."
We both had a good laugh and thought no worse of each other after.

I read that one time that Will Rogers after becoming famous had a nice home in Hollywood. One day a down and out family from Oklahoma rolled up in front of his mansion in an old broke down pickup and knocked on the door asking for charity. He reportedly gave them $80 out of his wallet and when the press got wind if this act they asked him why he gave the family $80???!!!!

His answer: "It was all I had in my wallet at the moment".

My ex-wife left me for a better lover. I saw it in Baltimore! Loved it!
