In reality if you can melt lead to make bullets for your muzzelloader you can melt the silver and gold into smaller pieces for bartering. When I was in the marine Corps a friend of mine told me not to take anything but 1 dollar bills to mexico. Same principle applies when trading change in a dark ally! Just saying. If it ever comes to that most of us will already be dead or in hiding and no one will need gold or silver anyway. I buy it cause it's shiny and Purdy!

Silver, push comes to shove both will be worthless as money. I can make a lot more bullets with the silver. An hey they'll kill vampires and lycanthropes too

In a real crisis I'm staying right here. My family and community will need us.

Same.

an event can force anyone/everyone to leave home or stay and die.

smart folks prepare for both things...stay or go.

I think the computed return for the last 20 years is about 4-5%.

I still have two 10 oz bars I bought in the late 80s at $4 per ounce and that compound heals is not great.

there will be nowhere to go better than home for some of us. Others better have a plan to get out fast. All depends on where you live. Home to me is 96 acre farm. our garden is larger than a lot of peoples entire property. It is to populated and growing and that's negative another negative is a few miles to my east is the Ohio River to the west I65 south I264. so I'm kind of in a trap zone where freedom of moving could be limited and why I want to get horses and or mules.

if you live in town or a city you better have a plan to get out fast. For me it's a plan to get home. My place is where other will want to come they know there will be food and they can survive.

if you live 100 miles south of a nuke detonation or chemical release and there is a north wind good luck thinking staying home is best...

people have had to run fast from home to not get burned up in wildfires...

etc.

like I said smart folks plan for both things.....people who cannot envision any event that would have them run for it from home are not too smart.

Middle of nowhere western OK. Middle of nowhere northern NM. Well stocked. I'm covered.

P.S. County roads and a few state highways can get me to either.

in that case I'm likey dead from radiation poisoning. but I don't live down wind for Any nuke power plants or first or 2nd strike nuke targets. I checked that out before buying the farm.

most likely disaster in to see is a big earth quake or tornado direct hit. Again not much you can do about either and no where better to go. wherever you plan to go if you can get there there will already be people there . typically they don't like outsiders.

I always find it humorous when I listen to peppers talk. Typically in 30 seconds I can find huge holes in their plan they miss me blow off.

OK you have a good stocked bug out location. how are you getting there in a grid down situation. Walk or bike are going go be your options. How far is it and how much can you carry? Do you have supplies staged off in between so you can actually get there? typically they don't. just one example of many..

I find folks who say they will never leave home and lacking solid thinking. The first rule of survival is to stay alive.

I find it amusing with all this gold and silver talk. First off, in the event it all goes to heck, what actual value does gold or sliver have vs a gun? Who sets the prices? Who is gonna carry a measuring device to know exactly how much dust they’re giving or receiving? Your best investment is weapons and ammo. You can take what you want and defend what you have.

You can easily grow coffee in a greenhouse in Indiana and Ohio. I have a friend who lives in Hamilton, Ohio who just grows coffee outside in warm weather and in a humid bathroom window in cold weather. She doesn't get a lot of coffee beans, but does get some. In a greenhouse you can get enough coffee beans to keep a habit going.

during the last period of time (great depression) 'it all went to heck' gold and silver served folks well...

when was it the government confiscated All the gold again?

Keith I do have a 30x75" high tunnel but somthing tells me it would be better used growing food. I absolutely had no idea coffee could be successfully grown in Indiana though.

Does chicory even make a close substitute for coffee?
