I started out my first bait after reading the archives and watching a lot of videos. I started with:

8 pounds of ground elk mixed with beef fat (tainted for 6 days stirring daily)
3 pounds of small chunked wild turkey breast (tainted for 3 days)

after 6 days/3 days taint, I added:

1 bottle of dobbins bait solution
4 oz Beaver Castor
4 oz of mink glands
1 oz Asafedita tincture, 1oz Gator Oil, 1 oz Valerian tincture
3 pounds of diced chicken turkey thighs (not tainted). I found them in the bottom of the freezer, 3 yrs old.
2 cans of chicken based dog food (something I saw on You tube North American Trapper mountain man bait recipe)
I also added some glycerin oil and sodium benzoate (what came with dobbins plus some extra I bought.)

Now I have approximately 2.5 gallons of bait. This is way more than what I had originally planned on. I am not sure if I should put another bottle of Dobbins Bait Solution in it or not? I do plan on adding 4 oz of beaver castor that someone just gave me in a trade for some old traps.

My questions are: Would you add another bottle of Dobbins? Would you add any more glands or tinctures? Also the Asafedita that I added was a tincture and I swear it had zero odor to me.

Lastly how many 16 oz jars will I need?? I have 20 on hand. I plan to let this sit in the mixing bucket for a few more days checking for bubbles and stirring daily before placing it in plastic jars. Thanks for any advice.

Why did you waste 8 lbs of elk meat on this?

I doubt you'll need another bottle of bait solution considering the bait solution already has mink glands, castor, valerian and asafotida in it, and then you added more of those "spices". You want to make sure you add enough sodium benzoate to halt decomposition of the meat.
