Anyone got suggestions for a half decent weedeater for less then $200 ? Just need something for around the house

The electric ones are prettty nice these days. My mom bought one a few years ago and it holds up really well. I’ve got an echo that has not skipped a beat in 8 years too. I have no idea what either goes for these days

I have a battery powered Ryobi, cause I already have the batteries, and no messing around with the crappy gas...Not the most powerful, or longest lasting, but works well enough for the little I do.....YMMV

Dewald electric no mixing gas, fouled carburetors, quite no hassle. I have a large yard and never runs out of a batter lot of power also. Would never go back to gas no reason to even if you need it all day just carry and extra battery. Also I have 20 amp batteries i use on different tools and some are 4 years old I date them when I purchase them.

Good deals on stihl and echo gas engine trimmers of marketplace. It should start right up, no bog down at all going from idle to full throttle and the head should stop turning when you let off the throttle. Most common problem on used trimmers is they are filthy.

Add to that , whatever brand you buy , get a detachable trimmer head.
I have a hedge trimmer , pole saw , mini roto tiller attachments. Optional attachments do not have to be the same brand. My roto tiller is a Ryobi I got for free.

I have bought the last 2 from pawn shops. Both are straight shaft Stihl, FS90 or something like that. Gave one to son and have been running the other for probably close to 8-9. Use premium gas (no ethanol) and seafoam. Saw one similar last week for $100 out the door

Got a Stihl that I bought over 20 years ago. Still running strong. Figured over 20 some years it is the cheapest weedeater I've owned. Or you can weed eat a couple times a year with something like Peramatol or Sierra.

If you have cordless tools go with the same brand weeder so batteries will interchange

Not a popular choice im sure, but I bought a Poulan Pro from Walmart in 2011. Never changed spark plug, never cleaned the carb, leave the gas mix in all winter but have a shot of sea foam in there. That thing starts every spring after 3-4 pulls.

Hmmmmm now y'all got me stuck dead between going electric and gas

i got a electric Stihl that i hate. not enough grunt. went and got a echo gas. my last echo went 25 years.

How many minutes a week and how far from the house Max?

Not sure on price but was impressed with the Milwaukee and usual the tool batteries



If never more than 50 feet from house get a corded and have the wife do it

I have a gas and it is nice when away from home like at the range but a member of the range with a Milwaukee was getting near as much out after a battery as I was a tank. You and Small engines don't seem to fit well.

I've had very good luck with Echo.

I went with the biggest motor offered on the swappable head stihl they had. The first purchase was for a pole saw head to clean up the trees hanging over fence lines. so I thought more Power = more better.

until I bought a weed eater head for it and my wife and boys were using it along side an echo weed eater. I'm going to tell you the smaller weed eater did its job just as well and was half as heavy and much easier for them to use. the extra power and weight was no benefit and a a negative.

for a weed eater I really like echo. they always start easier and faster than my shihl's both chain Saws and weed eaters. and bigger is nice some times but not all the time. Mid size is perfect sometimes

Gas will give you the power , less time on the task. If you have a small amount to deal with , the electric may be a better option than dealing with the maintenance of a gas engine.

One of the nice things with a detachable head and making use of your trimmer with other tasks , is it GETS USED. 90% of the maintenance of a gas trimmer is from sitting unused. Their carburetors are very tiny and gum up quickly with disuse. Landscapers have almost zero issues with their trimmers because they get used everyday. Finding more tasks for your trimmer is a good thing.
