This past summer while busy reducing the marmot population had a crazy idea.
Take the small marmots (this year's hatch) freeze them whole then this winter use them as Cat bait in cage traps, but use the shredded tops of cattails to form kind of a nest and put either castor or BTO on the marmot, seeing as beaver is the king of baits out here.

I'm thinking it would work fine.

What kinda cage trap are you using? I was thinking about getting a Z-trap bobcat pro cage. What do you think about those cages?

If asking me I get mine from a semi local guy the builds them have had good success with them so far( knock on wood) along with the double door swim throughs he makes.. I personally can't afford the Comstock plus the shipping here to WA.The shipping is almost as much if not more than the trap

Yep shipping on cage traps is nuts! Z-traps cages are free shipping so I was considering buying one.
