I only have 2 weeks in November to trap coyotes before rifle season for deer here in PA. Scouting my trapping locations for blind sets and lured set locations. What pre baiting has worked for you guys, and anything to avoid trying. Thanks.

… set on fresh sign when you’re ready to kill them would be my advice

… a man can kill a lot of coyote in 2 weeks that way

Insert profound nonsense here

Deep dirt holes packed with cheap dog food covered in cooking oil or bacon grease. Done it several times two weeks in advance when I knew I had a week to trap only on a prime property. The dirt holes were dug out to the bottom of the dirt hole. Natural step down sets. It’s effective.

Praise the Lord and Pass the ammunition.

Put out a big bait a few week before your starting then set away from it to get them coming and going the colder the better.

What savell mention, find heavy fresh sign and make your sets there. Pre baiting works well but not so much the beginning of the season for the poop will show you this time of year they are not having troubling getting none meat type food pretty much anywhere and it’s still warm out like also mentioned the colder it gets the better pre baiting or big bait piles will be getting lots of k9 action but the warmer early season months lots of none targets possum, skunks, and raccoons are ganna plug up a lot of your k9 sets first setting around big bait piles or pre baited sets. They seem to always clock themselves to free food before k9s do. Even if a coyote digs out a pre baited hole almost most times a non target has beat them to it for there’s higher populations of them then there are coyotes. I’d stick to scouting and finding heavy foot traffic locations and heavy scatted up locations two weeks in locations like these is about all the longer your ganna wanna set up anyways for once the catches start the less and less coyotes are going to frequent that area.

What law dog said. A dead pile that a stockman uses regular is always good. Even an old pile of bones is good. Dead horse is a coyote magnet. Road kill deer is another if its legal there. Here it needs to be tagged by a deputy before you move it.

For me prebaiting has never worked very well for me. It seems they hit it once then with their curiosity satisfied, avoid or ignore it there after. I am better off waiting until I can make the set complete with a trap.

If I put out a cow or calf and they had been treated by a Vet coyotes wont touch them even in the coldest weather . I know there are coyotes in the area and the carcass is there from late Nov. - march . I also stay clear and only check after new snow .
