I just put 20k of em in my house. Redid the whole outside exterior. Went with simpson doors. Wish I would have done it a few years earlier before bidenomics, but Im happy with them. I have pictures and single hungs predominantly, and a casement for egress in the basement. Double hungs are more and Im not sure if they are any better. At least not for us. We only need to crack them a bit and the top fixed is fine. Aluminum outside painted black inside. Did drywall returns with walnut sill. Have to finish the roof first. Then i can get back to finishing the interiors of all of them.

Did residential construction for 30 years and just about seen it all. Marvin windows where definitely on the top of my list for quality and customer service although I never needed them. Pricey but you get what you pay for.

You cant go wrong with marvin. I wouldn’t definitely remember them. I would look at awaning windows for over double hung. No horizontal mullion blocking view and they are less money. Still plenty of draft when open.

Good choice. Stay away from Pella...Horrible product and they wont stand behind them. Rotted within 8 years and wont do a thing to replace them .

Anderson windows all the way. If you use Marvins flash VERY well and "tip" your sill so water drains out. They are literally designed to leak.

Hmm.
So how does one " tip the sill"?

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

Interesting, I took a little course at Marvin’s and they would like you to frame the sill at 3 to 5 degrees…and then flash it….and if I didn’t take the course they don’t want to honor any warranty work…I don’t think that’s legal.

I bought a pair of french doors with an outside set of screen doors. they are very nice and lock tight. They are very weather tight and warm in the winter. I am impressed with them.

Just passin through

Interesting info about tilting the sill 3 to 5 degrees …. I knew they r manufactured in Minnesota they should do well in this colder climate ….

It is all about support if the window fails.
I you choose “ Marvin or Anderson” make sure a representative is available in your area for support.
We had 3 fail Andersons fail and 2 Marvins fail on two different brand new homes in CO.
Anderson has the best customer service.

Myself,,,, I don't pay for a name,,,,,,,,
I look for a warranty and r value…..
