I have hunted elk a lot and taken several. To each his own, but sitting in one spot for 5 days without knowing where they are or how they move would not be what I would do.You gotta find them first and then figure out their movement. Then setting and waiting MAY work but I am a spot and stalk type hunter unless I am POSITIVE they are moving thru where I could get a clear shot.

Pulled camp yesterday. Moved about 6 miles. Rubbing elbows with other hunters, but first morning spotted a real nice bull. Don't know if there's cows with him. Heading out now to watch him leave his bed. hopefully some cows with him.

Saw my buddy again this afternoon. He left to get a drink at the watering hole around 5:50. Sure wish I had a bull tag. He's a shooter.

In jest maybe but I was with a terrific elk hunter last fall and we had the drop on a pair of eater bulls, I was flat shocked at how far away they were and how lite the swirling wind was when they busted us. Phenomenal sense of smell those elk have.

Keep on em 2bit!! Here’s a few pics from our elk camp and some harvest pics. Spent 11 nights in the mountains, had a couple really late nights, and managed to enjoy every minute of good company, scenery, and fun. Every time out there is different with weather, available water, hunting pressure, etc but we learn a bit more each time to help us the next. I’m thankful my buddy and his dad invited me to join them starting back in 2017. We’re lucky enough to borrow this tent from a friend and it makes a trip out west dang near every year as he is gracious enough to let folks like us borrow it. We went 2/3 with our muzzleloaders, ending up with bigger bulls than we figured we’d ever shoot in our life! One came on the afternoon of the last day hunting, so don’t quit until the end! Mine was at 92 yards and the last was 25 yards and coming straight at us! Happy trapping! ScottW [Linked Image]

Talked to my neighbor that’s been out in the Hills chasing elk since the 1st if the month, he’s passed on 3 bulls said he’s holding out for a trophy so we will see. Lucky he’s in a good unit but he’s running out of time.
