I want to get non iodized salt for tanning purposes but I’m not sure I need a fifty pound bag from the tractor store. Does anyone know if you can get smaller bags? Like 10 or 20 lb? Everything I see on Amazon, etc is crazy expensive sea salt and such.

buying 50 # from a feed store is probably still cheaper than a smaller amount anywhere else, if nothing else you can use it to de ice your steps... grin

Yeah you’re probably right about that! I just have so little room as it is. It’s crazy how much STUFF you accumulate over your life

Though Walmart sells large boxes of kosher and ice cream salt, can't remember if they're 5 pounds or bigger... pretty reasonable.

Go buy the 50lb bag of salt. If you’re going to start tanning, you’ll be using more salt than you would have thought.

50lbs doesn’t take up much more space than 20lbs.

Cold as ice!

Grocery stores sell non iodized in 1 pound right next to the iodized if you only want to start out with a pound or two.Less than a buck a box.

Go to the bulk barn store and you can get as much or as little as you need cheap. They also sell citric acid.
Pickle salt is what you want-a little coarser than table salt and non iodized with no other impurities.

It’s a good time to get a deal on pool salt.

Canning and pickling salt?

Iodized or not means nothing. I have no idea how that myth became so popular. Any bag of fine sale is fine.

You can put slightly over 60 pounds of salt in a 5 gallon bucket. It doesn't take much room and doesn't go bad. In an emergency, its more useful than gold.
