Don't use that pressed stuff sold on amazon. If you want fish oil get some good catfish or trout or spoonbill.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Blackies blend “thumbs up” is a fresh fish bait preserved.
That’s the one I was thinking of previously. Really good coyote bait change up from other meat based baits.

Got friend that does well on predators using nothing but small bluegills pinned down under his trap pan.

My Grandpa caught 100 plus red fox many seasons using chunked sheepshead. It was a blast catching a few barrels full.

Chunked carp was one of my go to change ups for coyote bait. Free for me, fun to catch in summer.
I had watched plenty of the far north folks feeding their dogs salmon or using salted or dried salmon at sets for a wide variety of animals it got my attention.
Late season set I use a lot is in flat picked bean fields I kick a pile of bean chaff into a pile, bed the trap on one side and on that same side stick a chunk of carp back under the chaff pile.
I think I added them to my coyote bucket when I started catching coyotes at my coon dirtholes baited with carp. A few catches at first sort of like a fluke. After several more catches it seemed to be something I needed to pay attention to.

Jamesons has a good trout fish bait and a chunked bait. I’ve even had good luck with koi fish cleaned and chopped in half with some trout oil around it.

I was talking to a very well respected individual in the trapping community 5 or 6 years ago. He told me, "most people don't know this, but coyote love fish. Keep it fresh." I believe he used carp. Trust me, this guy has caught MANY coyote. At the time, I had trapped 43-44 years and had no idea.

I've caught coyotes and fox both, in the water, using my fish based raccoon baits. I know of a few fox caught in DPs with it as well.

Since my initial post on this in 2019, I was remaking a set one day and had used sardines in some DP’s and had a can 3/4 full leftover. I decided that the heck and shoved it down the dirt hole. I’d already caught a coyote as a flat set, then a gray, and decided to make it a dirt hole. The next check I had another coyote with him chewing on what was left of the can.
What’s crazy is those sardines in the DP’s never produced anything.

How big of a chunk do you use? I use the same set, but use a regular bait

I chop mine up with an ax or cleaver and they end up in maybe 2” by 2” pieces, about size I can shove down a dirt hole.
Heads I leave whole and the heads work great for those bean chaffe sets where I don’t have to try to make a hole big enough to fit the head down in it.

I'm going to give it a try. Thanks
