My 2018 Ranger 500 has an issue. When I decelerate, it dies, and takes considerable winding on the starter to get it going. If you wait 5 minutes or more, it fires right up. I put an aftermarket primary clutch on it, didn't change anything. Thinking about trying a new belt and new secondary clutch. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a fuel pump issue. They are in the gas tank and cooled by the fuel. It does not take long to ruin a pump in the summer heat with low fuel in the tank. Simple fix but a little spendy. I fuel mine up when it gets to a half a tank and have gotten 15000 miles out of a fuel pump.

I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.

I'm with MT Bowhunter, certainly sounds like the fuel pump. If your right has a fuel filter, ya may as well change it too.

I do not know of anyone outside of certified Polaris dealerships that has more experience with Rangers. MT… and his ranch have a plethora of Polaris Rangers and they work em, and fix em. I’d give his words weight GRP.

GRP, if the engine is dying it's not a drive train issue. If the engine runs at times it's not an engine mechanical issue. It's fuel or fuel/air IMO. That's what the folks above are pointing you to.

This is exactly right. I just had the same issue. You can buy an aftermarket fuel pump off of Amazon for around 60 bucks. Takes 5 minutes to change out.

My buddies RZR does the same thing, he changes the fuel filter. It’s just a very small thing but that’s what fixes it.

Had a Yamaha do the same thing. Would idle fine, and choke out when you pushed on the gas. It was the gas cap was the gas cap. Three Philips head screws on the bottom and a filter under it. Took a tooth pick and cleaned the vent holes in the cap out and fixed the problem of vapor locking

UPDATE: I ruled out a fuel problem, never had less than 55 psi at the injector. A coworker asked a friend who is a Polaris expert, and he said to check valve clearance. Intake was correct, spec for exhaust was .010" it measured 003." Because it is an overhead cam, you swap out tappet caps to change clearance. I got parts in and time to work on it this week l, and it fixed it. It likely was holding valve open slightly when it got hot, making it die. It is a reman engine, and I guess someone goofed a tappet. Hope this helps someone.

Glad you figured it out, engine won’t run ifin it can’t get rid of exhaust. It sucks that they are getting away from the screw and locknut tappets. No shims or tapped caps to buy, ever.
