The American Federation of Teachers website is an eye opener too. Good thing you guys won't watch the NFL, while you support public education.

I was homeschooled from Pre-K through senior year. My first time in a traditional classroom setting was my first college class. I have one older sister who was homeschooled as well. She has her master's degree and works in a hospital as a provider. She was the perfect 4.0 student. I have a doctorate degree and work in a private health setting. I'd like to think we turned out okay. I was too interested in trapping to be a 4.0 student. I'll give a couple of thoughts. My mom always said that homeschooling is like anything else: You can do it right or you can do it wrong. I understand what Wissmiss is saying. What's to stop parents from doing it wrong? Not much unfortunately. However that autonomy is an ingrained part of American culture. You should have the right to choose what is best for your children without governmental interference. Even if the education is poor unless children are being harmed the parents should be allowed to do as they see fit. If we're being honest though, the caliber of education from a lot of public schools is pretty low - at least the schools around here. Another fact is that a lot of weird kids aren't weird because they are homeschooled. They are homeschooled because they are weird. Kids who are picked on, are predators, or who cannot sit down in a classroom are often pulled out or kicked out of school and then homeschooled. A casual observer may look at them and say: "oh that kid is why you shouldn't homeschool" without realizing what led up to that. I remember meeting a kid in our homeschool group that was new and he told me he was kicked out of school for sexual harassment. He had issues long before doing school at home.

Yup.. This is going to crash and burn
But if 4% of the population does it...it can't be that bad..... What percentage of the population traps? All my grandchildren that are school age are homeschooled. We have 5 year olds that can read better than most people in public high school. One of my grandsons is 12 and studying college level aeronautics when he completes his regular classes. Also have a 12-year-old that has completed most of her high school math requirements because she loves it and just keeps working ahead. I am absolutely shocked more people don't pull their kids out of the public school jungle and give them the quality education they deserve.

Not many people are willing to do the work involved or go down to a single income, realistically just look at the # of single parent homes with no chance they could ever afford or have the time even if they wanted to.

If a kid is quiet, sending him to school isn't likely to make him outgoing and if he's out going, keeping him at home isn't going to change that. Environment doesn't determine personality. You will never be in an environment like public school again, except for college. In the real world you don't only interact with people your own age. So how does that prepare them for life? Homeschooling produces a higher percentage of well educated kids. That's a fact. They might have gaps in thier education, but so do public schooled kids. Our Homeschooled kids went on to be very motivated adults. They know that no one is going to do everything for them.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

My kids work part time, do home school, run a trapline, go hunting, go fishing, do Civil air patrol, and take jujitsu. There's a big difference between homeschool kids and public education kids and we see it when they are around other homeschool kids compared to when they are around public school kids. To each their own but homeschool has been great for us.

The Dr. Phil show is always a good source of credible information. Maybe not, but maybe not entirely inaccurate. When I went to school in the 80s, an A was 96 or above. 94-96 was an A- Now, currently in college again... anything over a 90 is an A..... America is definitely being dumbed down!!!

I don't remember the numbers my daughter said her nursing school grades were at but it was not 90 80 70 60 they were lower. I was surprised and yet more so when she said only a 6o i think she said was required to pass the state nursing test and her school was much higher. That said even though it's sad she is still top in her class so at least there is that. She is also the youngest and one of the few nor working in the health care field yet. Maybe homeschooling her was good after all. She really had to talk me out of driving to the school and tell one of her instructors off when she told me she said don't worry about making A's only worry about passing the test. o man I was fit to be tied having an instructor setting such a low bar and not push the students to their best.

To each their own but homeschool has been great for us. Same with my 2 boys except the jiu jitsu. Lt.s in CAP. I'm pretty sure one will make it all the way full Colonel. I have one son that's a little weird and one that fits in wherever he goes. The last thing i want is for my boys to learn social skills from a bunch of 13 year old public school hellions. If my son's seem "weird" to the typical Ritalin filled losers in public school, that's just fine by me. That said, one of the most impressive young men I've ever met is a C/Lt. Colonel in our squadron that goes to public school. His father is a public school administrator and his mother is an immigrant. That kid is a superstar in every way - work, self discipline, maturity, physical conditioning, music, sports, leadership, public speaking. And he's friendly, personable, kind, and other kids and adults really like him. There great kids that come from every kind of background.
