I simply can’t stomach oatmeal. Maybe just a few bites and it had better be apple cinnamon. But I LOOOOVE Cream of Wheat. Since hubs got this gluten intolerance I’m going to pick up Cream of Rice for him, I never tried that.
What do you all like in your oats, porridge, etc?!

I have plain oatmeal for breakfast every day before work, made by my beautiful bride. 2 minutes in the microwave, but still. She gets up and makes it for me and it's ready when I get downstairs.

I love cream of wheat. When I make it my wife always calls it "mush". She can't stand it. She likes oatmeal. I grew up putting brown sugar and a little milk in both

I like a little salt, butter, sugar and cinnamon and a good deal of milk to where it is pretty runny and I can just drink it.

Oatmeal with a tbsp of protein powder, splenda and PB fit powder, is my staple for breakfast when at fur camp or while scouting. I figure any scent I leave behind is less threatening to the bobcat population, and they may even think I'm a rabbit. I like a structured schedule at trapping camp. Evening nightcap is a great German brew followed by hot cocoa with a splash of peanut butter whiskey. I'm not sure what the cats make of that, but they clearly can scent nuts.

I used to love it when I was a kid. Then tried some in a restaurant and found out that mom loaded a huge pile of sugar in mine. Not a fan of the stuff, but eatable.

I love buckwheat pancakes. Covered in real dark maple syrup. Don't think I've ever had anything else made with buckwheat.

As a kid growing up, oatmeal, Ralston (was the best of all three) and cream of wheat. Now.......if oatmeal......steel cut oats, raisins, brown sugar and mix of whipping cream and milk. Cream of wheat OK too. As long as grits are cooked and not instant, grits are A#1. Butter and cheese, make a puddle of them on your plate and a couple runny fried eggs on top.....no need for any kind of bread or toast, but does require bacon. Leave out the bacon and you may be violating at least 5 or 6 state laws......or should be.

Grits are a southern thing. Go to any grocery store south of Mason Dixon line and they may have 3 to 5 different options for cooked grits. By cooked, going to take at least 15 to 20 minutes. Some grits about the size of BB's and may take an hour. Up north.......instant may be it.

As a kid, my favorite breakfast (not cereal) was hot buttered toast in a steaming bowl of milk and salt & pepper . . . aka "milk toast" . . . when older . . . Grits & Shrimp! :-)

I've had grits twice and thought they were foul. I would try shrimp grits if they were heavy on the shrimp. I could at least pick the shrimp out and eat them.
Do shrimp grits have whole shrimp or tiny pieces of shrimp in them?

A forth form of hot cereal is cooked brown or white rice. Again.......mix it with raisins, white or brown sugar, cinnamon, then add half and half or whipping cream.May need a pinch of salt. Served hot. Not rice pudding.....just hot rice. That is fit to eat.

I may have a small bowl of oatmeal every couple of years. But only when it's bitter cold outside. Gotta have butter, some brown sugar and a splash of milk on it.
Dang sure not something I want on a regular basis.

Love cream of wheat. And Malto meal. Oats too. Some on here have great mixed ingredients for that.
My father made the ultimate GRIT meal...a mess of grits on the plate....lots of buttah melting in, salt , peppah, floppy bacon chopped up on top, and how evah many eggs , basted, on top. Mix them all togethah .
LOL but you do time that well to enjoy ! I've done that too. Those in company who like almost burned bacon -I just leave in the skillet or oven longer and pull mine well before then.
Man I love My Cousin Vinny.....there are tons of lines that are a hoot.
You're good at fitting it all in and making it work !
Awesome guys! I boiled some jammy eggs in advance tonight . Just sit them in hot water tmrw to warm them up! Oh my gosh I have English muffins at work!

I haven't had Cream of Wheat since I was a kid. I forwarded that pic to my wife for the grocery list.
I mostly eat low carb but will eat oatmeal when I am hunting and trapping in the fall/winter. Good way to start the day.

Porridge is good in winter.Great to start a days work outside at 30 below, I like porridge with a spoon of brown sugar and a splash of milk. At trapping camp where time is a valuable commodity a common breakfast in the north is a cup of tea blos then out the door to work the lines.
