So, what's eveyone tips tricks and general advice when it comes to camping in the butt crack of the US....I mean the southeast grin

Seriously all these videos I watch of of camping are only in nicer places up north/ Midwest. But never any talk of dealing with fire ants , chiggers , and all the other wonders of nature in the south .

So , what y'all got ?

Best tip I've discovered is to go north, specifically to the tops of the Georgia, Tennessee mountains. Ten degrees cooler up there.

Just camp in the winter. Much nicer. You can actually sit close to the fire.

Buy yourself a Lezbaru, I mean a Subaru, put a $3000 tent on top of it and go over landing , don’t forget your LL Bean boots!

Either buy a RV or wait until it is cool enough to not be sweating in a tent wink

WolfDog,
Don't you live, hunt, fish, and trap in the southeast?

You know what's in these woods.

If ya scared, say ya scared.

Coon hunting, catfishing, up early slipping into the turkey woods just general woods bumming had me in the woods more than not. Heck as kids we were constantly piling limbs making shelters and forts.

I guess that why the whole tent half a dozen cooler thing isn't as appealing. I got all that and have taken the wife and kids but I'd much rather head out with what I can tote in a small backpack.

Yeaahhhh that's my deal right now wife wants to camp but realizing my version and hers are two different things laugh
I'm thinking " man get a lil 1 man tent like I had in the army, try to keep my truck under 20, catch some fish by the lake ect"

Her.....well ... We went to bass pro , "just a tent" went to a air mattress, which went to a gas stove , which want to coolers and all that jazz. Not full out "glamping" but 90% sure a large part of our trip would be her in a chair reading on her Kindle

Turns fun into work quick like. Best I've been able to do is to pack all that stuff up into it's own "backpacks", aka totes, to try to keep it as close to grab and go as possible.

For that type camping check out national forest campsites. They often have out of the way sites that don't get hit hard like the state parks. Corps of Engineer does as well. But some of those can get a little sketchy if it is a local hang out.

Hammock tents keep you off the ground, away from ants, ticks, snakes, chiggers, wet muddy ground. Love hammock tents when in the swamps in Florida.

I have seen people set a 110 air conditioner on a small table and run it through tent window. Go to any corps of engineers lake in the SE in summer and the campgrounds will be full.
