A nut (almond, peanut, etc.) glued or wired to the pan, smeared with a little PB. I've had too many times when the mouse picks the PB clean without setting off the trap.

Usually use PB, but cheese does work too.

PB lasts longer, really long in fact. Cheese dries up and loses effectiveness. I always have a few traps set in case they somehow make it past the cats. That doesn't happen very often though.

PB most of the time, but chocolate syrup in the cavity of the yellow plastic pan is good also. Hardens up in a few hours and stays good for a long time.

Peanut butter most of the time when I get a pesky one I will switch it up to chocolate. When I have to use a glue trap I use a Rat sized one with a chocolate wafer stuck to the middle of it. Works great.

PB - use sparringly. Less is better. Make them work the trap to get it.

Drill a 3/8" hole in the wood base directly below the trigger.
Smear if full of PB.
Mice tend to worry the trigger sideways more when attempting to get under it for the goodies.

X2. No other way. We dehydrate plums. I find a piece of that or something similar is helpful to jam under the trigger and schmear with PB

I like cream cheese because it doesn’t run off as easily as peanut butter, but PB has a better scent. I always wrap some dental floss or pull out a strand of hair and wrap around the bait so their teeth get stuck and it trips the trigger

Tootsie roll. Put it into your pocket a minute to soften. Cut it into 1/3s. Mold it onto the pan. Better than PB or anything else for me.

i always thought that and/or a piece of bit-0-honey would work on trigger wires of 110 conibear for big ol barn rats. Preferably on bell triggers of BMI 110.

Chocolate chips melted then smeared on the trigger then let it harden and it catches more mice then peanut butter all day. In some special scenarios when I’m trapping in barns wheee there eating feed and they don’t want chocolate I take some of the feed and mix it with peanut butter and the mice love it

I enjoy trapping mice in my shop and barn. Bonus when one makes it into the house.

I like sharp cheddar. I let it sit for a while so it hardens a bit and really stays on the trigger. I want them to tug on the trigger. Sometimes I'll sweeten it up with a dab of peanut butter.

I open up the curled end of the bait holder a little then slide a half piece of nut, preferably cashew or peanut, in.
Rarely they will get the nut out but I look at it as they will be back after one free meal.

I find a peanut wired to a Victor mouse trap is too heavy. I use an in the shell peanut on a Victor rat trap for chipmunks and often catch mice with that setup.

Trapper7, I am using just the meat of the peanut, not the shell. I have had to split almonds also, if they are too big.

I add PB until the trap won't stay set, then take just enough off to get the trap to stay set when I place it.

Many of the mice I catch are little, tan buggers. Not the bigger grey ones.

Are your traps Victors? I tried using just a peanut without the shell and can't keep the trap set as it adds too much weight wired to the pan. That's why I was just using PB.

Yep, victor yellow pans.

I have a rat trap set inside a weasel box with a whole peanut in the shell set for chipmunks. I had a vole in it this morning. The yellow pan has a sensitive setting on it and will take anything that touches the pan.

I would try to use cashews, but I am sure that I would eat all my bait before I got the traps set. Thats what happened when I tried to use marshmallows for coon.
