A woman at work told me she was outside the other day and her cat started acting weird. She looked down and saw a dead bat. Her husband (who is a kind of hyperactive kid, know it all even at 55) decided to pick it up with a latex glove on and sure enough somehow the bat penetrated the glove and drew blood. She ended up taking the bat and her husband to the ER and the bat had rabies so....the first round of shots started today only two more rounds to go.

That is scary. We had a woman come in years ago trying to help a cat who was dragging itself across the road. Both her and her daughter were bitten/scratched. A day or so later the cat died and it was bitter cold. It froze to the ground. After a while they got worried and brought it in to send for testing. Even frozen (which you’re not supposed to do) it came back positive for rabies. So they had to go get shots.
It’s terrifying and people aren’t educated about the risks

I had to send a skunk in this last February to find out if I needed shots. Was pretty relieved to here negative on the results.

Had a friend ask me today if I had the preventive rabies shots as he heard of a rabies outbreak in southern part of the state. This is second hand news but still taking precautions.

It’s hard to get the vaccines where I am. I only got post exposure due to an incident through workers comp. Otherwise it would have cost me like 800 bucks.

People hear rabies all their lives so pay it no attention, if you told them animals had ebola or covid they would avoid them at all cost. People don't understand rabies is 100 percent fatal if not treated.

Just had a child die of rabies in Southern Ontario. They had a bat flying in there room, no bite marks and child said they where not bit. Report said there teeth are so fine you can get bit and not noticed, especially if sleeping. They recommend the rabies vaccine, if exposed to bats in this situation just as a precaution.

Since reporting began in 1924, there have been 26 cases of humans being infected with rabies in Canada, all 26 cases where fatal. Vaccine is as close to %100 effective as you can get, if caught in time.

Testing in Ontario shows approx. 16% of bats carry the Rabies virus, up from 10% last sampling.

They have the Milwaukee protocol now, so a very few people (like 5) have managed to survive. Even there the survival rate isn't good and the treatment (chemically-induced coma) sounds awful.
