Thanks for looking! A friend recently gifted me a vintage trap with the marking “5 Griffiths”…. The trap has two long springs and “teeth” on the jaws. The total length is 38.5 inches and it has a large square pan measuring 5.5x.25 inches). I can’t find any info on the trap and was hoping someone could tell me a little about it (including a rough idea of value so I can gift him back).

Thanks!

I’m pretty sure a Griffiths trap is European, but holy cow at 38 inches long that thing is a giant. Not a lot of guys collect foreign traps but a few do and hopefully someone chimes in. The size of yours would make it very desirable and I have no clue on value but at a minimum I’m guessing $4-500

Thanks for your replies! Sorry I didn't attach photos to my original post (was not able to post photos with my iPhone). Now that I'm back to my computer, please see below for photos of the trap. I didn't include scale but the trap length is 35.5 inches long and the pan is 5.5x.25 inches.

The maker is S. Griffiths. Your trap is an Australian Dingo trap, S. Griffiths also made smaller traps for rabbit and fox. Yes, it is way overkill as Dingos are about the size of Coyotes.

Here are a few Australian Dingo bar traps from my collection.

Thanks for the information!! Nice collection of traps! Assuming my trap is in average condition, what would you estimate the worth to be? I want to gift my friend who gifted me the trap.

I would say that your trap is in the $300 to $500 range, I am not up on the current prices for Australian traps.
