Brought the missus up to the ER, possible stroke weakness in her arm. I'm with her until they take her up for a CT scan so I go out to the waiting room.

This is where it gets interesting. I'm sitting and watching my phone when security, rent-a-cop, calls me by name and waves me over. Says I need a visitor badge, okay sounds good, and he needs my drivers license, whoops why. We'll might as well then he says that pocket knife clipped inside your pocket needs to go.

Nope, not doing it nor am I telling him of the three others in my pockets. Hand me back my license I won't be disarmed and will wait in the car.

Now I got two young rent-a-cops in the parking lot watching my every move.

They look like they need some exercise. Think I'll walk around the building a few laps.

Walk up to them and have a pleasant conversation about the weather, the breakdown of FEMA, hurricanes...bet they find someplace else to be, lol

I got called the same for asking questions when my 2nd wife was in the hospital once, funny if you never raise your voice or leave your chair but know the patient bill of rights and question the wrong tests in charts and question the dr because he missed it you get asked to leave. She checked herself out 5 mins after I reached the car , they refused to let her do it when I was in the room. Went across town and got treatment. I also never saw a bill from that night or stay.

It's strange. Local hospitals here have metal detection and you cannot have any kind of knife. In the big city hospital, I can take in my multi tool no problem.

Last time I was in the ER, the nurse asked me if I had any weapons. I said I had a pocket knife, she just gave me the way no and said she didn't hear that.

I haven't been to the doctor in several years but the last time I went, it was for a required physical for work. The doctor asked me "Do you feel safe in your home"? I was a little shocked at the question but I answered it honestly. I said "Yes, there is a loaded gun by each door and usually one within arms reach". It did not go over well at all............

Yeah, no way I'm leaving "tool" to get stolen from my vehicle. But if they have metal detectors, i'm deciding, more reconsidering how important the visit really is.
Really tics me off, because you know that security officer has no legal obligation to protect you or your loved ones.
To be clear, this is not a pocket knife I'm referring to. I can't believe someone walked up to the OP about a freaking pocket knife. Smh

Be prepared for a shock if have reason to o to the vets hospital. Metal detectors on any door you cab get inside and a paperclip will get you a pat down as well as their magic wand.

I've been asked do I feel safe on every first visit and many of the subsequent ones, at 5 different hospitals. I've never been checked for or asked if I have any weapons on me at a hospital.

What is there not to feel safe about? Unless your my wife driving through a nice neighborhood in a blue state with Harris signs In every yard on both sides of the street and pride flags in a few of them. I'm still LA at her serious comment " I sure would not want to break down here" completely serious like we were in south Chicago not a nice neighborhood. I can't remember where being asked that question.

The ERs around here all have metal detectors at the door but you can walk in any other door in the complex and there are none. Makes sense right!!

There are plenty of weapons already in a hospital, no need to bring one with you.

Never been asked about the knife, but do get asked what sex I am, or would like to be, how I want to be addressed, am I depressed or ever had suicidal thoughts...it's a long list
