Had a Bear cat and single 6 and both were good I liked the lighter bearcat as I got older, as they taught in the military oz. = pounds and pounds = pain. Also the bearcat had fixed sights which was ok for trapline dispatch but on an occasional grouse in a tree or dinner cottontail I liked better sights. I finally went to a 22 cal S&W Airlight and will never look back. You dont even know you have it on you belt or shoulder holster. Very accurate with adjustable sights 8 rounds and a super quality made gun. I am planning to get the identical gun in a 38 cal for carry. pick one up before you make your decision more money but worth it.

Heritage male s a good little knock around .22 pistol. It has a stupid safety but various models and many can be had for under $100 when on sale. Bought one for about $60 couple of years back, after the sale price and a refund from Heritage.

The Heritage is poorly made, inherently unsafe, and a poor reflection on the firearms industry.

The Ruger New Model Single Six is just the opposite. Excellent design, high quality materials, excellent manufacturing, and safe. Accurate and fun to shoot. It comes in various iterations. I prefer the 6.5” barrel model. I have carried mine on the trapline for many years and it still looks like new.

The Bearcat is equal to Single Six, but scaled down. Available with adjustable sights as designed by Lipsey’s distributor.

There are other good .22 caliber handguns that are great for use on a trapline. I use the Single Six, Browning Challenger II, Ruger SP101, Ruger Mark II stainless bull barrel, Ruger Mark IV tactical, and Ruger Mark IV stainless hunter. My favorite varies.

Life is too short to use junky guns!
