The top looks like a Montgomery and the bottom is a BMI.
Yes, 55.
Guys use them for mink. Sounds like you’re correct according to the collectors on FB.

I have used the BMI 55 for little hole where mink go into holes along a culvert. They can fit where a 110 won't. They are a good sturdy trap
Just passin through

The tell on the BMI is the bell shaped trigger. Victor made something similar.....same size, but not the bell trigger. The Victor trigger clip is split on top and wires are longer than normal.
How do you know the other was a Montgomery?
Easy to vote your way into socialism, but impossible to vote your way out of it.

That is how I understand it too.......but trigger clips, dogs and trigger wires were different. On some traps, jaws and springs seem different too.

If memory serves, BMI and Victor were from same family. Like brother and sister?
At any rate, out of body grips I have, BMI are the pick of the litter. Almost all of them were perfect right out of the box.
Still wondering how to ID the other trap as a Montgomery?

Still wondering how to ID the other trap as a Montgomery? Im pretty sure Montgomery was the first to make a 55, and it was quite some time before the other companies made theirs. So if I see a 55 size trap without magnum curved corners Im betting its a Momtgomery.
