I mowed the grass & weeds leading to my box blind on Sunday and all was well. When I went back a few days later something had damaged the wall. There are squirrels, coon, deer, and sometimes bear in the area. The blind has been there since the spring of 2022 and nothing has messed with it before. It looks to me like what a bear could do but a bear could also easily get claws in the door jam and rip it off. Also, I have 4 trail cams out and have seen no sign of a bear since spring. Could it be from a buck taking out some aggression? Whatever did it I hope its one and done.

Same damage showed up on a wall at a clients place this week. Barn wall is chip board and has been there for years with no issues. Might be the time of year for those peckers to do damage never noticed it in the fall but odd it was the same day or two states apart but about the same latitude. Maybe not but interesting and I'll be looking in October next year to see if I see it again

My first thought when I looked at the pics was woodpecker as well. I've seen similar damage on some of my sheds from them.

They like large flat areas...just like a large "speaker". May not be mating but just like to let other birds know they are there. Anyhow...take care...

I agree with all the woodpecker posts.

We had similar damage to our buildings at the gun club. We hung large reflective spinners on each corner, and the damage stopped.

Woodpeckers did tens of thousands of dollars in damage to the house next to my mom's house, which had similar siding, that all had to be replaced. The owners were renting the house and apparently the renters didn't care the house was being literally pecked a part.
