Hello Trappers!
I’m not a trapper, but I may have to learn! Recently some beavers decided to make their home in the creek on my property in the Colorado mountains. I’m worried about them causing flooding in my house. I’m wondering if anyone on this forum lives in Colorado and would like to come trap the beavers? I believe that since it’s on my land and they are causing a property hazard this is legal. Feel free to message me if this is of interest!
If no one wants to remove them, I will take care of them myself. Does anyone have any tricks or suggestions of what kind of traps to use? I think lethal traps may be illegal in Colorado but I’m not sure. If I live trap them, how would you suggest I euthanize them? Shoot them while they’re in the cage?
Please feel free to message me or respond to this forum.
Thanks!

A quick look at Colorado regs shows that beaver trapping is legal in the state. There are several trap types available to accomplish your method of removal - live or lethal. Your state wildlife department will always make this information available and you should always strictly abide by their rules and regulations. If you can’t find it on Google then a phone call to the state office will get you headed in the right direction.

Given this is your first post on Tman and you’re from Colorado I have to admit that I’m skeptical of your motivations.

Welcome to T Man,
Colorado is a big state, I'm sure there are trappers in your area that would be able to help.
Like Leroy said, Game and Fish should be able to help you with regs and probably know of some one to remove the beaver.

Yes, trapping is legal, But cages only for the most part. Private land is no different than public, unless it is zoned agricultural.

Thanks for the information. I’m not sure what you’re skeptical about, unless you think I’m a troll or something. I’m actually originally from northern Maine, but I’ve lived in Colorado for 20 years. I grew up hunting white tail deer and still go back home every November for deer camp. I was just hoping someone in my area would maybe want to come trap these beaver. I’ve never trapped but I’ll do it myself if necessary. Thanks for your reply

Right, there probably are local trappers who could help out. That’s why I posted, I’m hoping some local trappers see my post and respond.
Good idea about Fish & Game, thanks

your best bet would be hire an Animal damage control Trapper if you want then gone. Sure you can. trap them yourself or try to get someone to come do it. BUT if you mess up and educate the beaver that will become much more difficult to remove. And when you do decide to hire a Trapper it will end up being more expensive.

You most likely have more than one could be several more. if you remove 99% of them you will still have 100% of yout problems remaining.

I actually tried hiring a company already. I was massively overcharged, and the guy only caught one beaver which made the campaign “successful.” There’s definitely still several more. This was the highest rated company in the area on Google.
