How many of you work with your pelts?

I am lurking and learning and find all of these threads, especially the "Coyote" and "traplines" very helpful.

I am doing my best to follow as a lot of the trapper talk is a lot like reading hydroglifics. Lol
I have some things coming in the mail to help me learn the tools. So I'm not given bad information from the Internet. Suggestions are welcome as that list is only actually one dvd. :3

I'm wondering if I have questions about tanning work, as that is my passion, is this the forum to ask these questions? Thank you.

I have tried mounting a few things. Some turned out better than others.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I'm familiar with tanning, thank you. Sorry I wasn't clear on that.
Let's say I have a question about let's say, opossum stink. do think this is a good place to ask?

For example that opossum up there I did myself. It was beautiful but no matter what i did. Nothing got the "wet dog" smell out. Opossum release some sort of gland when its stressed. I'm wondering if that is what happened with that pelt or...?
I used baking soda, Borax, peroxide, dawn dish soap. Even left it in coffee for months. I eventually had to toss it. frown

The same recipe for getting rid of skunk smell will work on most other scents as well, I have used it on things on fur that would make the owner try and roll off, LOL

Cool pics Mrs L. I hang antique traps on finished and prof tanned pelts on every wall of the house and out in the tack room across from the wall with the trophy gear from a rodeo career. It don't take much talent but it shore do look nice.

That's awesome, Left lane! We love that kind of decorating, too. Just came across this idea the other day. Getting so pumped up over the season!

Screenshot of someones YouTube channel. Not mine! I really like this curtain skull idea this guy came up with.

Ive mounted a few things in the past. More euro deer mounts than I can count. Full size bobcat. Raccoon, coyote and bobcat shoulder mounts. Gator head. Several tanned pelts. Far from a professional but I seem to make them work out ok somehow.

Thank you, guys!

IV been quietly following and a lot of you guys are very talented in your trades, too!

So hard to hold back and not comment on everything! But I learned my lesson. Sort of.

Back to the subject.

Pipeliner I saw your awesome Gator. After I posted this. I commented, but than I deleted it. Im having a lot of commenter regrets because of the "flack" I was getting for jumping on here.

But I wanted to say, you're very talented. I started this for the same reason. I like to save myself money.

I spent under $100 creating all of that^

This forum might be the best one out there. For the variety experience. Which really was what I was hoping it would be.

Does anyone know how to manipulate a fur to keep the hairs nice and bushy? Think squirrel tail. Minute it's skinned it goes flat.
