It is a multi-faceted conversation, both literal and figurative. He speaks concerning spiritual sonship, they reason of fleshly genetics. Read on, Jesus tells them he knows they are "Abraham's seed" but it is sons of Abraham's flesh that they claim sonship. This is not the Abraham of faith that Jesus wants them to become (spiritual). The flesh is not justified by the law, neither is it justified by our genetics, position, sex or anything other than the shed blood and completed work of Jesus Christ alone. See Romans 4.
In their eyes, the Roman occupation was not enslavement or "bondage", thus they felt they (themselves-not the Jewish people historically) were not in bondage. They didn't see a need to be made free, if they were already free. Jesus explains that they are servants to sin.
By the way, not all the Jews were taken captive by the Babylonians; a large population remained in Israel during "the captivity." They lived in a pitiful state, but were not enslaved in Babylon.
Good information.

Perhaps all this means that Jesus doesn't just love the Jewish people, but loves people of all nations and perhaps he isn't pleased that the nation of Israel is committing genocide?
When you realize that the promises given to Israel are now actually given to the true church, the way you interpret the Bible changes.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Throwing Israel away may fit with replacement theology, but it don't fit in scripture?
Doesn't Rev 19:9 refer to the Fathers bride being witnesses to the Lambs marriage to His bride.
Rev 19:9 Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”

Many seem to think that there are two options: 1) church replaces Israel, or 2) Christians are required to support Israel. I’m not convinced that the Bible says either of these. Don’t think PAskinner said anything about replacement either.

I don't exactly see how defending ones self and trying to recover hostages could be considered genocide. While I don't know of any requirement to support Israel other than being on the side of right? Israel felt a obligation to the future church or someone referred to as sister, in Solomon 8
(Song of Solomon 8:8-9) The maiden’s brothers.
We have a little sister, And she has no breasts. What shall we do for our sister In the day when she is spoken for? If she is a wall, We will build upon her A battlement of silver; And if she is a door, We will enclose her With boards of cedar.
Surely that wouldn't be Islam?

I don't believe he was suggesting throwing out Israel. The Messiah has always been the way to the promise land. Spiritually speaking, the gospel was taken to the jew first. Israel has always been about winning that wrestling Mach. All nations shall be blessed. This is to all peaple who put there trust in God's promise, Jesus the redeemer. To the Jew first, then the gentile. This is the bride of Christ.

This...
. The problem is, many Christians believe that they have to support what they see as God's chosen nation, no matter what they do. Which is odd to me when Jesus himself condemned many of that nations sins. I'm a little lost as to what foxpaw is getting from revelations 9? Must see something there that I don't.

Could that possibly mean that if the little sister is a virtuous lady that they would uphold and embrace her as a wall to build upon and be lifted up, verses if she was less than a lady from Babylon then they would condemn her and close her in or lock her up.
I think when the snatching away happens the hull of the church will still be trying to function as always and may not even realize why sister and brother so & so isn't present?
As far as Israel needing our help, if God is truly in it then they need no ones help. But I don't think I can hedge thinking either way it goes I'll be on the winning side. I think it's one of those either I am or I'm not cases.
As far as making assumptions about what someone means, there is no way to know until they clarify it. I just assume one negative begats another !

Those heavier well endowed woman seemed to be more favored than the skinny girls in "Quest for fire". Maybe in hard times they thought the heavier ones would weather the winter better.

Either we are or not on God's side? Or Israels? Still not clear to me what your meaning is. The only winning going on is winning souls, IMO. From any ethnic background.

No matter how good a missionary is he can't win souls if his head is chopped off. I don't consider that a reasonable service nor hardly a living sacrifice.
