Howdy, Guys and Gals… Haven’t been on for some time now. I guess you know that I had Covid. I have never been so sick in my life as I was with that Chinese Virus. I guess the worst part was the high fever and days and nights being delirious. I had no one close to me that could or would check on me, in house, which didn’t help me much but added to the mental stress. I had fever over 100 for 5 days with the worst being over 102 for 3 days. I won’t go into some of the other problems I had to deal with.
After 11 days my fever broke, but didn’t go completely away and stayed around 99 for a couple more days. On day 14, the fever was gone and I tested Negative to the virus. I wish I could say that I was able to jump up and go on with my normal life but this wasn’t the case. Going on a month later, I am still weak, shaky and both physically and mentally. I have only left the house a couple of time to pick up meds, and the Drs. visit. I tried working in yard for about 1.5 hours and it did me in.
With trapping season less than a month away, I am strongly thinking I will not be able to trap any more. I am still trying to decide what I am going to do with the frozen raw fur I have in the freezer, I had hoped to tan. At this time, I cannot physically prepare the beaver, coon, and possums I have frozen. I have several muskrats and at least one mink that I can possibly handle.
So, it appears that Covid may have ended my days trapping, when age couldn’t. I am leaning close to 84.
I must now wipe the tears from my cheeks and roll up my tent and look forward to what the doctor said might be what I have to look forward to.
Thanks for the memories.

Hi Brother, we haven't been introduced yet. Came in last week. Nice to meet you.
I can't think of anyone who hasn't felt this grief in one way or another. My heart hurts for you. I send my sincerest sympathies.
My grandmother was very sick like that a couple months ago and wasn't able to even pick up the phone to call for help. It was so terrifying for her.
Praying for your recovery both spirit and body.

Isn't there a trapper bon here that lives near Gary, that could check on him? Someday we're all gonna need a simple hand.

Welcome back, mr. Actor. I had a (what I consider) light case three years ago. To this date, I still have no energy and get winded with just a very short walk. Standing outside in our hot summers is impossible for me. I have since given up trapping and miss it, but it is best if I plan to keep living. I know; you younger guys will say " I'll never give it up, even if it kills" me. It will! I am only 79, so you held out longer than me. Good luck!

Glad you recovered. That's a long time for being fevered up.
It is sad that you didn't have anyone close by to check on you though.

Thank you everyone and glad to meet you Mrs. Langley.
Part of the problem was... ever since I was a young man, I would get bronchitis in September, and it would come and go until spring. So, I thought that is what it was the first couple of days. Then I started getting the fever at or over 100. That in itself is unusual for me since my normal temp in 97.6. My cousin in the Chicago area called me and went through roof and suggested very firmly that I needed to get a Covid test run. I ordered test and got it the next day and was really surprised that it was positive. The intestinal part was miserable, and chest congestion wasn't much better. I had bad headaches, chills to the point I had to get out my electric blanket. Then the sweats started joined by the hallucinations and deliriums. The Doctor called in script and I had a man I know pick it and drop it off. I got the Paxlovid which left a taste in my mouth like I had a mouth full of rusty nails.
The main thing that upset me was the fact that I had taken all of the shots and boosters. I probably wouldn't have bothered with getting them except I have COPD and I thought it best.
I really wasn't afraid I was going die... but afraid I was going to live.
But like it or not... all good things must come to an end.

"afraid to survive/live"
That's a painful one. I had a health crisis myself. I did eventually recover and I am okay now, but I can relate to the feeling of uselessness and fearfulness over the "new normal".
I sure wish someone could step up and maybe be that buddy you need. Someone to check in on you. Preferably local.

Sorry to hear you went thru that Garry. But remember-what dont kill you makes you stronger. keep getting outside for fresh air even if its short periods of puttering around the yard,it will do you good. If I was near you I would put up your fur and check on you once in a while.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

You get back out to that golf course, and give those rats heck! I'm glad you're doing better, looking forward to your catches this winter.
