I wish there would be some numbers behind that. Same as last year? 10% less? Something else? For many trappers we need to have a ballpark idea of what beaver will bring before we gear up and make plans. At least for the serious trappers.

Even if it’s a lower market this year,, I’m still hitting them with the same zeal,,, I’m mostly after the meat anyway,, anything from the pelt, castor and skulls are bonus.

I think My beaver pelts will be rolled up green and put in the freezer this year. Unless there is more positivity in the market.

I dont think we'll see a better beaver market than now (past 2 years have been good). I really don't know what kind of market you're waiting for. Unless you're young, probably not gonna see a better market than NOW. Move on it!

What does it matter what they pay? Because all the buyers are competing for the same market. prices will give him an idea of what otherw will pay. Also if he is paying more and let it known he may sell to him.

Unless you're young, probably not gonna see a better market than NOW. Move on it! I’m hearing the hatter market is flooded, so I’m not too optimistic prices will be comparable to last sales. Im not young , ( but feel young ) been around trapping beaver for 56 years. Have seen the boom and bust on beavs many times. My fall beaver will go into the freezer, if the market forecast by then looks close to last year, I will put them up in Dec. and sell January -March. Put 100 in the freezer in the 70’s when they were about worthless, sold them 2years later for an average of $20/pelt.

Just like anything else Be vague about prices and then sit back and pick the cream of the crop to meet your quotas Down here in Texas their hides probably would not pay for the gas to get a truck load to a buyer But I intend to try and catch 1 or 2 for the wife's hide collection

If raw beaver prices hold similar to past 2 years then they will definitely pay to skin em, freeze em, haul em to sell.
I avgd $23 in 2023 for about 50 beavers and $22 last spring for 87 beavers. All just skint, folded, and frozen.
For deep South beaver pelts, that's not too bad.

Never sold to Groenwald.
My buyer has no Beaver in inventory and will start about 20% off last years prices. He expects it to advance from that. He was very clear small Beaver will take the biggest hit on price !

We are going from a market that wanted about any beaver to one that doesn’t want fall beaver in basically the lower 48. There are not only going to be cheaper but a much tougher grade. I bet we are looking more like 40% cheaper when all is said and done. Frankly although it was nice to have a market , beaver were still too cheap last season. Hope I’m being overly pessimistic but in the fur market that’s difficult.
