Does anyone have experience with 4” well pump laying horizontal on a stand in lake?

I’m going to be feeding our cabin and new building from the lake in NW Ontario. I’m currently using a jet pump sucking 1/2 way up and pushing the other half of hill to cabin and it’s about maxed out.

Looking for stand plans or ideas for the submersible pump orientation. Planning on leaving pump in lake during winter with valve by lake to drain buildings/ line. Will also have in line heat cable to thaw line for winter use.

I have a submersible in the lake supplying water to my camp
Pushing the water is the way to go as opposed to sucking the water
I put mine inside a piece of 6 inch pvc with holes drilled in it and a cap on one end
I hang it horizontally off my dock
I do drain down my camp for the winter and take my pump out
Works good and cheaper than drilling a well

We leave the thing in place covered by bins but we take the hose out of the lake

You must have a jet pump I’m guessing. That’s what I’m using now. I’m talking about a submersible pump like what goes in a well casing. I’ll be running heated cable inside waterline from cabin out into lake far enough to get below ice. You can just turn the cable on when you get there in winter and in a couple hours it thaws the line and keeps it thawed.

Just looking for ideas on how to mount submersible pump up off bottom of lake a bit.

Submersible pumps work on there side. You would have to suspend it off the bottom and worry about vegetation.

I think i would build a pump house and install a pressure tank.

I plan on having a pressure tank inside the new building with the new submersible system. I’ve found a few plans for sleeves around submersible on a stand in lake. As far as vegetation etc, it’s really the same way with foot valve system in lake. You need to get it off bottom and out deep where weeds don’t grow.

Pump house with jet pump would be a problem in winter as far as priming etc. when we just come up for a few days.

The submersible with heat cable is supposed to be pretty easy. Turn on cable, wait an hour for it to thaw the line then turn on pump. We’ll see……..

my big concerns would be ice in ice out , how is that going to beat up your shore connection .

are you going to burry the line in sand then rip-rap from about 3 feet above to 3 feet below water line?

a 5 gallon pail of cement with a chain in it , with a chain up to just below the surface and a buoy so you can go out and snag it with a hook and lift it and not need to go on the deep dive to the dark where you basically need to get it so it doesn't have vegetation.

I expect the ground is basically rock all around the lake?

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I put the pressure tank and pump half way up the hill. I just use pipe out into the lake and then from the pump to the building. I use a screen on the end of the pipe in the lake and then also a mesh bag that I replace every year. I pull mine out in the winter because I close everything down from October to April.

I have a 4” submersible pump on its side in the lake, it sits on rock, one of those 110v eBay $100.00 China ones.
I push water up a decent hill about 250’, It works good.
I pull it out in the fall.

Thanks all!

I have a system like Bernies now, jet pump 1/2 way up the hill. Ice has messed with the line a couple times over the last 10 years or so but nothing major. Its just a summer set up.

Its mostly a sand bottom where submersible pump will be, lots of rocks on shore and part way up the hill then back to sand. Plan on burring new line when it gets past the rocks, that's how the line for jet pump is now.

I have been drinking the water from the lake since I was a kid, usually with whiskey mixed in it.lol My wife and kids just use it for shower/dishes etc and drink bottled water. I plan on adding revers osmosis deal in cabin and new building so we don't have to mess with bottled water anymore.
