No video games or cell phones. Parents deemed social interaction important enough to encourage it and even document it.

What kind of bike is that on the far right? Never seen a fork like that before. All the kids ride BMX bikes nowadays.

That was originally a Spider Bike that the guy to the left of that bike turned into a “chopper” by cute g the forks of a junk bike and welding them onto the forks on the Spider Bike. He would turn all our bikes into that before the summer was over. Whatever angle you wanted, he would make it happen. Funny thing was the parents never seemed concerned about the torch cutting and welding, it was always “WHAT IN THE WORLD HAVE YOU DONE TO THAT BIKE!”

72 was the year I bought my first motorbike. A sweet little Honda 70.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

I missed most of the 70s but small town WI hadn't changed too much by the 80s , the shorts had a strip or two, the handle bars changed a little and no banana seat on my Schwinn sting ray
later in the decade it was a 10 speed Schwinn with skinny tires and a curved under handle bars

my parents both worked , I had to check in at grandmas which was 3 blocks away.

the nearest lake was 10 miles away , we had a pond that we didn't swim in but did fish in some.

berry picking raspberries

running around with red recurve bows

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

What gets me about being a kid in the '70's vs now is just the lack of overweight kids. I graduated H.S. in the mid '70's, a class of approx 250. There was maybe 1/2 dozen overweight kids, they were the exception not the norm.

1972 = I was 8 years old.

I recognize the chopper bicycle, but I had no clue what I was looking at laying at the poolside. That soon changed.

That could have been me. Perfect example of being 13 in 1972.

I turned 2 in 1972. We were living in East Lansing, Michigan, while my dad was in Graduate school at Michigan State getting a PHD in Chemistry.

I was 23 in the summer of 1972, married one year, stationed at McCoy AFB living in Orlando, FL. Graduated from EOD school. It was a fun year.
