Nope. She was created for the movie as an elfin love interest of one of the dwarves. It made a love triangle with the 3rd being Legolas.A bit odd.

Not that I can recall, and neither was the white orc. The Lord of the Rings movies follow the book pretty well, not so much the Hobbit movies.

I haven't read the Hobbit in quite some time though.

In the Hobbit (book), at Bilbo's house, Gandalf tells Thorin that Azog the goblin killed his grandfather Thror in the mines of Moria.
In the movie, Azog, white orc, has a vastly greater role than being mentioned in one line.

In the movie, there's one main orc, Bolg, that seems to be white orc's right hand man.
In the book, at the Battle of the Five Armies at the end, Thorin was trying to break through the "bodyguard of Bolg".

(I finished reading the Lord of the Rings to some of my boys a couple months ago and we've been watching the movies and commenting.)

There's often unique twists with taking a book to the big screen. Creating Tauriel to have a leading female character is understandable. And I can see establishing her as a love interest of Legolas. But I'll never get the point of having a romantic connection between Tauriel and Kili.

I can't believe some haven't read Tolkien. I thought he and CS Lewis were required reading. Bet they've never done Shakespeare or Chaucer either.

Aw, man..I haven't seen the movie in YEARS. Was there ever a hybrid? Hahaha

I usually watch fiction but read nonfiction. I don't know why. I guess if I want entertainment I don't want to use my brain?

My first exposure was the cartoon version of The Hobbit and Thorin and crew setting out to reclaim what was their's struck a chord with me. King under the Mountain.

I fall under I enjoyed the movies but I can't sit still that long to read the book.

and yes I watched the movies largely in sort runs pausing and coming back to it.

I think I watched the first movie start to finish on DVD years ago most of the rest streamed
