I have bobcat urine and made a pee post with it to catch coyote. First pee post I ever set up and I had a yote in there on the next trap check

Someone did mention something that got me thinking. If you catch a coyote and collect the urine from it, do you use it on the same property? Or did you keep for another property? And now getting back to multiple urines? If you collect from caught coyotes, do you carry umpteen bottles for each individual coyote or do you squeeze all those bladders in one bottle?

I've been told that trapped coyotes usually dump their bladders in the catch circle before you walk up to them so there's usually not much left in the bladders to collect.

This being my first season, I'm still going to try collecting to see for myself (if I manage to catch any...) but based on what I've been told, I'm expecting to find empty bladders.

Hunted coyotes, on the other hand, I've been told have a better chance of full bladders. But I don't hunt coyotes, so that doesn't do me much good.

You can always use the empty bladder.

Enough times to tell me they can tell a difference. Whether that difference matters 99% of the time is the question. And 99% of the time I don’t think it does matter.

I’ll tell you what matters ten times more than these pee debates, and that’s managing and minimizing your human scent (and overall intrusion) at locations. The devil may care bare hand boys can argue it all they want, it’s costing them coyotes. I’ve proven to myself WAY to many times there IS advantages to gloves, clean equipment, and drop clothes.

I started using a drop cloth last year. I seam to have more first night catches for sure. But also now that I’ve gotten a few years under my belt trapping 3 different ranched I’ve gotten much faster putting in a set and that equates to less scent being left on the ground,

A bit off topic but.... Boone and Shark....regarding the drop cloth...I use one and like it. I am cleaner at the end of the day especially in wet/snowy conditions.
BUT are you guys using the same cloth for remakes or do use a separate cloth/bucket? I ask because of the obvious....using the same drop cloth in a remake catch
circle and then using it for a new CLEAN set or after a skunk catch, etc...does not seem to accomplish the goal of reducing human scent?? I know we cannot
fool the animal that we were not there but just wanted to hear your thoughts....thanks ahead of time.

I use several drop clothes.

I TRY to use a clean one for clean, fresh sets. But sometimes I forget, or I have the wrong one with, etc.

As far as using a clean clothe at a remake than at a fresh set. You won’t be bringing more human scent, you’ll be bringing more scent of whatever animal was in the remake set. Which may or may not be something you want to do. I’m less concerned with “foreign” smells and mostly just concerned with keeping my human scent at a bare minimum.

I’m heading out the door right now to go after a coyote(s) I was hoping I had killed 12 days ago.

It’s a turd been avoiding EVERYTHING. Killed another lamb two nights ago.

You can bet I’m pulling out all the careful sneaky stuff.

I actually have a whole different bag and set of tools I use for remakes. It’s set up a little different than my setting day bag. So I have my “dirty” gloves and clothe in here. I don’t need the dewalt in the remake bag, don’t need a big hammer, etc.

Great answer and something I have gotten away from. I used to run a "new" set bucket and a "remake" set bucket got away from it. Thanks Boone!

I use the bladders in gland lures. They smell just like urine. U can use them fresh in place of urine

Seems like a lot of work. I think that dirt holds appeal in the particular situation of a remake.

I have been following along on this one. I would like to know the thoughts of the experts here. If I have fresh bladder urine from two different coyotes collected in the same bottle that I spay on a set, do you thank that when a coyote comes by the set he smells two different coyotes?

I my opinion, yes most definitely. If they can train dogs to detect cancer cells in the human body then canines should be able to determine two different urine.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

John Heart (putting on wolf workshops this month out here) asked if anyone had a connection for good urine, he’s having bad luck with the stuff he’s bought. I’ve never had success with the store bought stuff either. I’ll try it again but it’ll have to be fresh and collected myself.

You all are a little TOO DEEP into urines (LOL). I don't know "GOOD" from "BAD" but can smell differences. I let my dog's reaction to odors placed around the farmstead tell me what might be a "GOOD" one to try. If you can use a dog and are astute (pretty fancy word huh) enough to decipher its reaction to that odor, you may be able to pick one that a coyote would have interest in. MY LONG STANDING EXPERIENCE with the 1%'s that need removal. .................the mike
