What guy wouldn't want to be Strider?
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

In the Hobbit (book), at Bilbo's house, Gandalf tells Thorin that Azog the goblin killed his grandfather Thror in the mines of Moria. In the movie, Azog, white orc, has a vastly greater role than being mentioned in one line.
In the movie, there's one main orc, Bolg, that seems to be white orc's right hand man. In the book, at the Battle of the Five Armies at the end, Thorin was trying to break through the "bodyguard of Bolg".
(I finished reading the Lord of the Rings to some of my boys a couple months ago and we've been watching the movies and commenting.)
There's often unique twists with taking a book to the big screen. Creating Tauriel to have a leading female character is understandable. And I can see establishing her as a love interest of Legolas. But I'll never get the point of having a romantic connection between Tauriel and Kili. The Tauriel/Kili thing is a prime example of hollywood just not being able to come up with new ideas. Its blatant ripoff of the Arwen/Frodo scene after the Ford of Bruinen.

I can't believe some haven't read Tolkien. I thought he and CS Lewis were required reading. Bet they've never done Shakespeare or Chaucer either. Oh we had to do shakespeare in HS, I could still recite most of the To Be or Not to Be soliloquy for a few years after we to memorize it my junior year, but Tolkien and Lewis...perish the thought. Especially since both were devout christians. LoTR kinda sneaks it in but as Tolkein wasnt a fan of allegory its hard to pick up. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia is much more overt. LoTR isnt the easiest of reads, though its certainly better than the romantic(aka opium) era of Brittish Lit i had to endure in college. Getting through the first book of The Fellowship would keep most kids out of it.

Can I be Tom Bombadil? Just hanging out in the woods with my lady singing songs, picking flowers, and feeding travelers. Sounds like a pretty good gig to me. Have At It pal!!!
