Looking to get a dual fuel gen with at lease 8,000 watts or higher. My budget is $1100 to $1300.
So, I need your input and experience. Online reviews aren't always reliable vs personal use.
Thanks again for your help.

Might consider buying a large gas Gen, and converting it to the other accept the other fuel,

There are TON of generators out there, many re-branded with big names but most all made in China (with the exception of a few). Champion and Firman sell a million of them and have mixed decent reviews (Champion maybe having a better track record). Subaru is another step up over most others but is likely outside your price range. I'd likely go with Champion as parts are easily available and many models in your price/watt range. Now of course Yamaha and Honda are top of the pack and build some beauties but expensive. Also anything that isnt a suitcase style generator will be loud as heck. Some awesome sales out there in the fall.

I have a dual fuel Champion generator. I have only ever burned propane in it; and continue to only burn propane in if so long as I have propane.

It has been very good so far, but only had it for three years and have never had to use it for more than a day or two at a time. I cannot say how it would do in a prolonged multiple weeks use. Chancey

Do you want portable or stationary? Generac sells decent gen's that hook up to your house gas, whichever one you use, and start up automatically.

I have two duel fuel generators. One Firman and one Champion. When you run them on propane, they are not as efficient as being run on gasoline. But the propane doesn't go bad as fast as gasoline. The one for the house is a Champion 7300/8000 and runs a 2000 sq. foot house with everything running at the same time, no issues. The 7300 is if it's running on Propane. The 8000 watts is if it's running on gasoline. I had a Transfer Switch installed by a professional. He made me a custom "whip" ( a long custom made cord 75 feet long), helped me figure out how to make it "Floating Neutral" (You just unscrew a nut take off the lead and wrap it with tape). Otherwise the generator will not power your home. The long cord is because they are loud and I didn't want it too close to my house. I roll it out of the garage, hook up the whip and start it up. Throw the transfer switch and I am powered back up. I paid $2600 for the transfer switch and about $750 for the Champion generator about 5 years ago. The prices on the transfer switch has gone up a lot.

I have 3 at the cabin. Two Honda Generators and a Firman Inverter.

I researched the Generac, not for me. They have issues that I don't need or want in Alaska. Like the auto start each month, not for me. The switch to make it not do that is $400. No thanks. I need to be able to work on it myself. Nobody is showing up in Alaska for anything, your not getting any help, you better be able to fix the problem yourself. Hope you find a system that works for you in your area.

I have been really pleased with my Firman. Think I paid just under a 1000 for it. Eric

I have a Westinghouse dual fuel around 12kw that I ran 400 hours last winter. Works great, ran on gas but would like to hook into my Lp tank.
