My 14 year old went hunting tonight. Passed on several deer and went to shoot the x bow to unload it and said the bolt broke in half 8" down from the nock, insert is sticking out and end of bolt is cracked. String are off cams

Just guessing but I thing the bolt must have had a bad or week spot and came apart when shot and not absorbing enough energy so the Xbow came apart like being dry fired.

I looked it over and can't see any cracked limbs but don't know if I'm willing to trust having the kids shooting it any more. It's always something.

Looks like it was held right against or nearly against whatever he was shooting it into to me. I'm no expert but that's what it looks like.

Bow have an anti dry fire setup on it? Maybe the bolt wasnt in right. space between nock and string? Or a cracked bolt before it was shot? Take it to a bow shop and have them put the string back on and shoot it .
What brand bow?

I've seen that happen when the bolt isn't seated fully or properly on the string when the bow is fired.

I would not load it again until it gets a checkup at the bow shop.
Glad he wasn't hurt.
I accidentally dry fired my bow one time. The sound it made was something I never want to hear again

This won't shoot if the bolt is not seated correctly or so I was told when I bought it 8 or 9 years ago.

Working in an archery shop, we usually see this when either the bolt isn’t seated all the way back or the bolt is cracked. We had a guy have a close call with a compound where the bow derailed halfway through the shot due to a cracked nock. It just wasn’t able to transfer all the energy.

What if the wrong vane was between the rail and the nock was set wrong? Shaft damaged during practice possibly? Kid screwing around?

the bolt pieces were not in the target laying on the ground beside it have not found th vain side yet its dark. So beside he knows better had he had it against the bow target it would have went into the target .

I don't believe it will shoot with the bolt not seated correctly but I may have been told wrong , so it leaves the bolt being damaged as my guess.

the x bow is a mission 320.

My primary concern is putting.the stings back on and having the guy at the bow shop knowing.what he is looking at if it's damaged.or not. I'm not comfortable taking.the chanc.letting the kids shoot it it.it may have an issue. I was planning g.on buying another one so we had two but.this just stinks no moring hunt. Ther is not a good bow shot around. bass pro has a bow counter but I don't know how much they know and if I trust them.

Check your limbs over really well on it, run your hands along the limbs checking to see if they’re splintered. Looks can always be deceiving until you run your hands along them. Check the cams over to make sure there aren’t any bent or sharp edges along them. Just some stuff we look at when we have a bow that comes in that’s been derailed.

I’m on the Barnett owner page lots of bows blow up especially the hyper ones some within the first few shots so it’s not unheard of.

this one is 8 or 9 years old now. back when I got it 16" wide was the smallest made and it was short enough NY daughter could us it at 8 or 9. . she shot it 2 times at the range.in th shop off a rest and hit a 1" spot both time so I bought it for her. All the kids have killed deer with it and I still like it better than all the rains I looked at. it's so much lighter.

Hopefully it will check out ok I wish I could flex. the limbs and run my ands over looking for cracks . the common make it hard to look over.

Years ago when I was still living at home I had a Xi legacy I bought new in 94 blow up on me . the limb split at the axle on the lower limb. I had it set at 80 lbs at the time shooting heavy 150 ge heads and aluminum
Fiber glass was flotimg down. out of the air and i had a nasty deep purple welp on my left.forarm for. 3 weeks.

Has a Browning fox 2 youth bow that strings would.jump the cams every 20 to 30 shots. Bow shop told.me.get a new bow after about the 5 the time said I had wore it out shooting it so much. I did shoot.it. several hrs a week.

They are overpowered in my opinion my Whitetail Hunter is not near the hyper performance Xbows and it’s passed through a deer and an elk long ways. I’d stick with the middle powered bows the others seem to have more issues because they are overpowered.

I’m new to this Xbow thing so take what I say with a grain of salt but my Xbow does what I need it to do for under $500

You're not supposed to shoot a raven to unload it. You take out the bolt and use the crank to back off the string. Too much power.
