Graduated high school in June of 72 12 years of schooling got me a day shift job a $ 2.35 per hour Was only 3 miles from home so I did not have a car but it was on the way to my Mom's work so she would take me to and from work I was always told when I get a job I was expected to help pay my way at home so after 3 months of saving money I bought a brand new green and white Vega And than began paying room and board to my Mom I think it was only $10.00 a week but it might have been a little more I was always an independent kid Not one to get in trouble but stubborn and hard headed when it came to doing what others told me to do I would often rebe ll against the idea just because I did not like being told what to do My Mom was a strong patient woman that meant what she said so we sometimes butted heads However she always backed her children so long as they respected her wishes She consigned on my car loan with the simple understanding it was my duty to make the payments She was just the right person to help me become an adult A few years later 1975 she again cosigned on a loan .This time i was for a 750 Honda motorcycle And I remember her telling me flat out I do not approve of you buying this thing But I will sign but you must pay for it She is a saint in my mind for having raised 10 kids that all graduated from school and went on to get and keep a steady job I was expected to do my chores witout an allowance Hippie Yes indeed Agnes was a flood to remember 14 inches of rain fell June of 1972 in about 4 days Beaverpeeler About 1970 Schwinn bicycle Co made a series of 4 different color bicycles That had a 20 inch rear tire and a 16 inch front tire They where called Apple Crate and Orange Crate Lemon Peeler and I think the other one was Lime Peeler That may have been about `1970 or 1971 I had a Lemon Peeler and I thought I was bad stuff I wish I still had that thing. Yes hunting in those days was certainly different than You could park the truck at day break and hunt small game or deer all day No hassles about property lines or trespassing just go and have fun I have gotten older with each year but I have not grown up It was not always easy but Iooking back at those days and thank my lucky stars for the many good times I enjoyed

A PhD in Chemistry! Sounds like a brilliant man. What type of work did he do?

After grad school, my dad started as a chemist at Procter & Gamblel. He worked his way up to being the Director in charge of Pharmaceuticals, Health and Beauty, Iams, Gillette, Corporate MIS Systems, Research & Development and more. He always had side companies going that he started too. The main side company was Megalogic. They designed some of the first large run circuit boards in the country. My dad would get home at 5:30 pm, eat supper, layout circuit boards past my bedtime and still be laying out circuit boards the next morning, when i got up for school.

My dad made one of the very first portable computers. It weighed 67 pounds and was the size and shape of a large suitcase.

My dad worked almost all the time. He's retired and writes more science fiction now. They made him a Director at Citizens for Global Solutions a few years ago. It's an organization I don't much care for. I believe in America first.

Keith
