No havent gone that far in,just starting some beaver removal on the trail in.Far end of the line is inaccessable before freeze up because of water crossings That’s what keeps the riff raff off the line for me. Most of my line is past the first couple ugly spots.

Who makes and maintains the nice trail your ATV is sitting on in the first pic, the timber/paper companies?

Thanks, but they're not my pics B&B, I got them online. I just wanted to show BvrRetriever the difference.
I've killed a good number of both species in Canada. There's a huge difference in the way Canadian Ruffed Grouse behave compared to the ruffed I hunt here in PA. They are basically tame up there. You just walk along a trail and plink enough for supper with a .22.
Down here they are mostly wild-acting. I hunt them with dogs and they sometimes explode at your feet and you have a few short seconds to make take a shot, they're fast! Or they run out ahead of shotgun range and flush wild. They like to hold up in the nastiest, thickest cover around.
At least that's been my experience.
Eh...wot?

Who makes and maintains the nice trail your ATV is sitting on in the first pic, the timber/paper companies? It is an old decomissioned(1960s) logging road,no maintenance other than what I do.Some places look good, but lots of places underwater and old culverts washed out. A buddy of mine has a camp on Abimatinu lake and he has a small backhoe that he uses occasionally to open an old culvert or clean out the ditches on the first 6 km to where his camp trail cuts off into the bush. He uses an argo to get to the lake and a skidoo of course in winter. The old logging road goes in 40 km to the far end of my trapline. Bridge washed away on Abimatinu river so no getting by there until freeze up. There are thousands of miles of old logging roads in this area of Northern Ontario, some maintainec by trappers.

Most of my line is past the first couple ugly spots. Luckily no riff raff up there. The couple guys that moose hunt on my trapline have been hunting there for several generations and they respect the land.We have worked together to build and maintain some bike bridges.

Found a cool old trail today. Old trapper used to catch a lot of lynx down that trail,I will check it out this winter on the snowmachine. Picked up a few beavers and birds today and had to do some quick chopping-beavers are busy. Teepee set connected at the old culvert. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2024/10/full-21521-233365-dscf6170.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2024/10/full-21521-233366-dscf6171.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2024/10/full-21521-233367-dscf6172.jpg)

Probably cut in the 70s Old trapper maintained it,some. The trails in muskeg spruce dont grow in very much at all.It may be grown over with willow or tag alder further in, I will go for a ride down it this winter. I dropped that mink box there today and baited it with some grouse scrap. Will set it in a week or so.
