The saying that 20% of the hunters get 80% of the game is not spot on but it plants the seed of what’s going on. Find that 20% and learn from them to cut the learning curve. It took me years to arrow my first deer the problem was me but once I got that first deer it was a different story.

It’s like setting your first trap you have the trap but your unsure where even how to set it. Make a few catches then it’s a different story it’s just the way it is.

My dry spell began when I got locked out of a property because of change of ownership.

Even still I just talked to my butcher and he was flabbergasted that I ate tag soup this year. His buddy was hunting the same area with a spike tag and had no problem finding cows.
I've never hunted elk before, but with a 50%+ success rate how could I hunt 10 days, walk 50 miles, and not see anything except one lone bull? I just don't get it

I've been hunting big game since I was 12. I got my deer every year 17-25. Sometimes two. I'm no stranger to the trade.

I feel ya. First three years of living in Reno I didn’t draw a single tag and I put in for plenty. Finally gave up. This year I’ll hunt Texas for deer meat. Only thing Nevada has for me are coyotes. Lots of em.

Try paying out of state tags and doing the same for elk. Only to hike mile upon mile and never seeing a thing except four wheelers and cattle grazing in every valley…

At least I'm not the only one, just can't afford to go out of state, so I have to wait 2-8 years for that privilege

Got my elk this year in few days the almost 30 years of waiting for a tag was a bummer. Land comes and goes I’ve lost huge chunks of my old line because of deaths, sales, retirements and the land being rented out just the way it goes.

The grazing at 8000 feet is ridiculous and uncalled for in my book and thus creates pivot elk who no longer range in the hills.sit on the pivots move a half mile in the morning and never leave private and then go back to the pivot to feed at night only to repeat… nope done with that..

2Bits.
I grew up fishing for channel cats on the RedRiver. Have caught 100s and 100s of them.
A buddy had never fished for them and wanted to try so we took my boat and went.
He caught 19 cats that trip and I never caught One. shocked

Bug/ windshield thing. Lol.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

50% success rate means 50% fail rate means you weren't the only one who didn't get an elk. Working hard doesn't always guarantee success, but at least you know you gave it your all.
