Cameras that call your phone in real time give a bit of an advantage .
On hogs, YES! I’m not sitting out all night waiting on hogs to show when I can set up a camera that lets me know when they show up. Think it’s called working smarter, not harder. Camera goes off, I get a pic on the phone, I’m there in less than 15min and the sneak is on!! Of course you’ve got to understand pigs and how much bait is at the site to know whether it’s even worth leaving the house. If you just baited, go back to sleep, they ain’t staying long. If there’s very little food in the deck, go ahead and leave. Those greedy turds ain’t leaving until the last nut or kernel is gone. 10-15min feed time if there’s a lot of bait, 45min - 2hrs if there’s very little. It’s just the opposite of what you’d think. So yeah, a cell camera for hogs is a must.
I’m guessing y’all’s game up north are very predictable. Ours aren’t. A deer, hog, coyote might show up tonight at 6:30pm. It may show up tomorrow night at 9pm. It may not show up Tuesday or Wednesday, then Thursday it might show up at 6:30pm on a camera 400yds away. It may take a certain trail 2 days in a row and not hit that trail again for another week. Y’all have seen my pics with bait and big deer and a stand in the background and assume that’s where the buck will be killed, lol. I can tell y’all have NEVER hunted near bait and it shows from the comments. I’ll kill does from that stand, but killing a big buck is pretty slim. Yeah he may come in if I was in it, but being able to draw my bow undetected with about a dozen deer all around me are very slim odds. All you’ll do is blow everything out and possibly educate that buck. I can get away with “scent” on some does and 3.5yr old bucks and younger, but once they reach 4.5 one little molecule of your scent and they fade into the thick like they were never there. The bait is in areas they’re already feeding ( had 19 deer around me one evening and only 3 on camera) All the others were on acorns. For the big bucks I’ll have to put up a lock on or climber or even a chair in some macheted out thick mess for the forecasted wind on trails leading to that area. It may be 75-150 yards away. Based on the wind today, I’m gonna sit in a thick ground spot this evening about 100yds away from my camera. I have a trail to my left and one straight out in front of me. The one in front has a couple of scrapes along it. Max distance will be maybe 20yds either lane. I have just enough room to pull my bow back, lol.
