I already bought my trapping license for this season. Need those for otter, marten, and fisher in my state, MN. This time when I bought my license the lady didn't really seem to know very well how to do it. After I got it, I remembered the site validation coupons and said, "Can I get the site validation coupons?" She said, "They're included." I said, "Yeah but they need to be printed out." She was looking at something trying to figure it out and I just said, "That's okay I'll just figure it out later." The last time I looked at the MN DNR website, it seemed to say that I had to go back to wherever licenses are sold in person to request them. I was hoping I could somehow request them online but it doesn't seem you can do that. Has this happened to anyone else? If I go somewhere to request them I'm hoping it's just as simple as saying I just need the coupons even though I already got the license. Luckily they're free. Is it that easy?

You can get them from anywhere that sells licenses but I don't think you can get them online. I get my sportsman's license in the spring but don't get my validation coupons til just before trapping season and never had any problems. Get your coupons too early and you will discover the ink fades and you might have troubles distinguishing which coupon is which.
Apparently your casher didn't know what they where doing.

What are validation coupons?

Here in MN we get validation coupons for otter, fisher or martin as we are limited as to how many we can harvest. These coupons are like deer tags and must be filled out at the time of catch and turned in with the animal when we register them.

Huh, for some reason I never got any email notifications that people were replying to my post, just now I discovered them. Odd. Luckily I didn't need the site validation coupons anyway, didn't catch anything that required them. I don't set any traps intended for them but you just never know what you might get. I'd like to have those coupons though just in case.

Anyway, I had the same thing happen this year when I bought my licenses. The lady was new and had to ask another lady for help a couple times so that didn't help but this time I tried specifically asking about site validation coupons before my licenses were printed off and she said nothing came up for that. And I told her, maybe it's cause it's too early for them. One thing though is that one of the animals that requires a site validation coupon, otter, they changed their season to last until mid-May this year which is the same time that beaver season ends here. Beaver season is going to close soon but I've been sort of wanting to try trapping some. I don't intend to trap otters anyway but what if one happens to go in a beaver trap? I don't know if I can get any site validation coupons for otter right now. So, that's a bit frustrating.

If that where to happen, contact your local CO and explain the situation to them. Your not the only one who's been in this situation this year. Hopefully they will have things straightened out this next season.
