Do you get paid to do it?

I teach. Never have hosted but have had a few. Don't get paid.

No pay. They have their own money for whatever they want. Just treat them as your own children. Food and fun is on you, but they usually have more money than you. Two out of three were very enjoyable.

Never hosted one, but had several in my biology classes over the years I took out hunting, fishing and,/or trapping.

Memorable students: the kid from Germany who started crying after catching a crappie through the ice. Later shared he'd never been able to eat the fish he caught back home. The kid from New Zealand who swore the stink from a 'possum was a whole lot worse than a skunk. He was retching from the smell. And that was before he skinned it.

I dated a couple in my younger years. They stayed over a few times...does that count? Nevermind.

I will say it was very interesting learning about how other people live.

We hosted a student from Spain. Worked out great. The following year my wife, son and I vacationed with his family in Spain. We left our son there for a semester.

My ex and I have had several over the years. Our kids were in school, had a girl from Finland, she was great. had a couple from Japan, one was good one was not so good. The not so good was very selfish, and seemed snobby. They are here to experience our lifestyle, not go on vacation and be taken to all the national parks and Theme Parks.

We have friends that have hosted a few. Most were awesome and have led to long term friendships and even an overseas visit or 2 to experience their home countries. A couple have been nothing but trouble, it seemed they had alternative motives for being here (mostly escaping their parents and living wild and free). Last year we gave one of the girls some clothing with our business logo on it (Christmas tree farm) and she sends us a random picture every now and then with her wearing it.
