I'm located in WI and having a hard time getting homeowners insurance for a cabin I built; first company cancelled me after a year, 2nd company just cancelled me in 2 weeks.
Insurance agent claims he's checked with all the companies and my only option is a broker??

Issue seems to be I'm in a protection class 10? Being 15 miles from the Fire Dept and an outdoor wood boiler which is UL listed with the proper setbacks.
I'm off grid with a mile long driveway also.

Anybody have any recommendations for a company to go with?

Getting frustrated here.

I would just take my Insurance premium I was paying, and invest it in something else that pays interest or dividends, and call it your "if something happens to the cabin" fund

I'm far from knowing much about insurance. Have you checked in to doing a blanket type policy where you cover the cabin along with your home.

Have an independent agent do the searching for you.

I would check to see if you have a Mutual Insurance company close by or maybe another agent. They all have different contracts with different insurers. You may have to go to an Actual Cash Value policy vs a Replacement cost policy/Broad vs Special Form due to the Protection 10 and secondary home.

being off grid
if it is paid for , I would look for liability only and self insure

my parents have a pace in FL and many of their friends who have not had claims in a lot of years are now thinking of doing the same , self insure , they could afford to put a new roof on with what they are paying in insurance

flood and water damage insurance is getting almost impossible even 8-10 miles inland where they are.

they can get fire and liability fairly cheap

they are all in their 70s or older , so the can drain their savings paying insurance or walk away and sell the lot ,if a cat 5 wipes them out and go live in a senior apartment back in WI and still have their savings.

several insurers' are pulling out of WI I have my own insurance issues right now although mine are more auto insurance

the insurance industry is primed to be the next big failure , apparently stuffing all those premiums into golf courses and fancy restaurants in the building , lef them not saving enough , thought they were to big to fail

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Check your insurance commissioners office. They may have a reinsurance pool for high risk dwellings.

I have my remote cabin/lodge insured by a Mennonite owned insurance company. They are one of the few in my area that will insure a remote cabin on a private road, miles from the paved highway.

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll make some calls.
These insurance rates these days are ridiculous.
