I was thinking about trapping some raccoons this weekend when I’m at my hunting shack. I saw some people on social media post pictures of coin they trapped. The fur looked pretty good. I am debating trapping coons this early. I am in mn so maybe they prime earlier. I looked at a fur primeness chart and they should be starting to prime. If I wait too long we will be frozen here and they will be holed up. What is everyone’s opinion on starting this weekend? Thanks in advance

I'd say go for it

The rifle has no will of its own it may be used for evil but there are more good men than evil men and evil will be corrected by good men with rifles.

East central WI here, and the females and YOY are blue. Big boars are light blue.

you could say that mainly had to get rid of some bear bait stealers. with multiple methods trapping was used as one of them.

I saw a few social media posts recently where the guys said they were slate. Know post was from Michigan and id guess northern lower section. He did mention same as above—-better males and dry females getting decent but young ones and females with pups will be junk. Heck many of thise will still be that way three weeks from now.

FYI— when coon were worth stacking up in quantity we almost always started around this time due to deer season starting here in mid November. That was only way we’d have long enough run to make numbers. But There’s a difference in quality over that 3 week period. You’ll just have catch a few and see what you think of them now relative to what you plan to do with them. December usually makes nice coon here. But if there’s any significant weather stacking numbers can be tough going

Fur buyer told me years ago that the adult males prime up first then the pups and females. The thought was the females are trying to get back what was lost to the litter and the litter it using its proteins to grow its body. Made sense to me.
