Some folks might tell you that don’t matter, but I’m not a fan.

Think about what you’re trying to accomplish. Why would you want to add scent to a trap that you’re trying to get an animal to step on? Keep your trap scent free (wax them…) and encourage the animal to put its nose where the scent is. (Hint… it should be past where the trap is so it’ll actually step on it).

In my opinion, the only time your trap doesn’t need to be scent free is when you’ve made a reset after a catch and the area is saturated with scent. Tons of threads on her for you to read through with all of this in it.

Used to be a guy on here with Bird Dog in his name and was a biologist or something that said that a coyote smells the oxidation from the rusting on the trap is what they smell causing them to pass or dig up the trap? Made enough sense to cause me to think about it a bit. But he also was talking about a fire out west where he lived and the only water near the area was a lake that had some kind of bacteria or the like and said they shouldn't be using the water from the lake to put the fire out. Caused me to question his common sense. Sounded to me like he liked his own fiddle music.

This is just me but anytime I have used fox urine I get non target animals at my sets. I don't use urine just small dabs of lure.

Get the rust off the traps, then wax them in HOT wax.
Store them in a box full of duff to keep them clean until you put them out on the line.
Urine for canines is the same as castor is for beaver.
Put some on a tuft behind where the trap is bedded
Use gloves when handling bait or lure and set with bare hands.

… don’t put urine on your hands or traps . You should wax the traps… but you can’t for some reason.. go on and use them as is … you’ll likely have some luck if you make good sets with good lure in good locations

Insert profound nonsense here

I find it kinda amusing when people say no urine on trap and then sift catch dirt over the trap. I mean, I get it, your store bought urine might have food particles in it, anyway I don't put pee on the trap but if you spread good urine all around the set, I bet it still works as well as it did back in the days that it was a common practice.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Just tinkle on your traps with your own selve's urine in a private place.

Make sure nobody sees you do it or you'll hear jeers & catcalls

from Savell & Vinke !!! laugh
