Took dad out for a morning in the woods. That always helps me get things off my mind. I figured we would see more and hear more barking. Seen six total other 3 where wild as all get out and couldn't get my son on them fast enough before they jumped skipped and got away. Anyways it was a nice cool morning to be out there and take in God's country. [Linked Image]
I shot a Grey and red and Cam and dad shot the other red. Cam shot hit it but wasn't a great shot, and while he was reloading dad had to finish it before he jumped.

what you can red's are Fox squirrels around here. We have a very small squirrel that is called a red or pine squirrel, bout the size of a chipmunk. don't think anyone would shoot one to eat around here.

Love Squirrel hunting, my favorite of all. Mo has about the longest season of any state.

I love it with a rifle, so much fun. My Father and I used to have contests, and they had to be headshots, or they didn't count.

Flipper, we just sighted in deer rifles and my dad wanted me to get his 22 driving nails. So after I worked on it at 25 yards with sand bags he wanted to free hand it and see who was closer he had 4 shells left in the clip. I shot 2 he shot 2 he was closer and that man can't hold a gun barrel still. I was like I don't shoot that much and I am slipping. No way he should beat me.

Anyways each squirrel I shot free handed and head shot, so who here shoots better at live targets then paper?? I am not sure why, other then I over thing paper because it's not reaction because it doesn't move, I'm better at a reacting I think. Only thing I can thank of.

I always tried to get a good rest on a tree when I could. One morning we headed out and I wore all my bowhunting camo, head and face covered and gloves. He thought I was nuts. I walked into the woods and back then the tiger stripes must have been invisible to a squirrel. It was nuts, it was really quick to reach my 5 limit. Crazy stuff, like see 2 running around and walk over where they went up a tree, shoot one, and the other comes around to my side and shoot him. They didn't register danger or something. It was great. I lined them up on a log and i heard him shoot 3 times on the other side of the woods. He came back a couple hours later and said did you forget to sight your gun in? I heard all the shots. I just pointed to the squirrels lined up. Fun times back in the day.

A Hmong coworker says the reds taste the best. He'd pass on fox squirrels for a mess of reds. I'll stick with greys and fox squirrels.

To me Fox squirrels tasted better than greys. Ate a Wisconsin pine Squirrel once, tasted like a pine tree.
