I posted something up at about this same time last year. Ahead of season I make up a few cat flags using old cassette tapes and a length of fishing line. It’s a tip straight out of Charlie Dobbins land trapping book.
Here in Nebraska we cannot use feather or fur for flagging cat sets with footholds unless those items are more than 30’ from the trap. Charlie’s technique of using either fake fur or cassette tape wads work very well.
Of course setting right on location and sign is key too.
Tape strands flutter and shimmy in the slightest breeze. Tie these up on an overhead branch or tall weed stem right at the set works for my cat sets. The subtle browns and blacks of typical tape types isn’t too obvious to anyone in area but cats will see the movement and flashes in breeze.
The stuff you need:

Take a long length of tape, then fold it several times and tie off the middle. Take scissors and snip the loops hanging down so that you have several individual strands to catch a breeze. A length of fishing line tied to top of wad gives you something to tie it off to overhead branches or weed stems.
One of my sets from last season. Big double dirt hole. Flagging is tied to tall weed behind the set. There were cat tracks along the fencerow on this side of fence. That’s a big cedar draw behind the fence, tons of cover.

And two days later collected this cat. At this same set.
There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum and in the writings of Charlie’s books. Thank you all.

Later, all…
