There is no trapline dog per say none breed to the task, so trappers use whatever dog they have for me over the years that has been several mutts, a Irish setter, black lab, Gordon setter, Walker coon hound and now a German wire hair

You get what you put into the training and a trapline dog needs to be trained to at the minimum stop, sit and stay on command, after that it depends on what tasks you want the dog to be able to do

It’s my belief that just about any dog can be trained to work but some will just be better at it then others, some would tell you that a hound is a poor choice because of their drive to trail and my Charlie has that in spades but he also was the smartest dog I have ever seen and learned quickly that on the line it was a hard no unless given the ok by me, it’s been 9 years since he died and I still miss him he rode the line with me for 22 years and taught me as much as I did him

What Nightlife said! I prefer an Airedale, when I started a basset would go with me added a lot of enjoyment.

I have a Boykin Spaniel She is about 45 lbs And she is a very smart dog Eager to please quick to learn and a good size as far as her riding in the I really do believe she knows the English language better than I do And a sweet heart personality to make her just a fun dog to sit beside you as you go about checking traps And she is a pretty good pheasant hunter hat retrieves And I spent about 15 minutes to teach her about finding shed deer antlers In truth she mostly taught her self much of what she knows And I am the luckiest person in the world to be able to be call her my dog

About the only breed I'm aware that lists trap lines on their resume are Blue Lacey.
